Now, back to our story ...

The Governor's POV –

I couldn't help but almost feel giddy; like a child on Christmas morning. I anxiously waited beside my truck as my men carefully unloaded my gift, my Maggie, and brought her to me.

I almost felt weak in the knees when I saw her. This was the closest I'd been to her since that night in Woodbury, and I couldn't contain my joy.

"Quickly, bring her here." I waved for Martinez and his right hand man Sgt. Michael Espinoza, to usher over to me.

She stumbled and waddled a bit as she walked. Her belly was so big, and to see it in person now … well, I could tell she was definitely due any day now. They walked her right in front of me, and I waved them away.

Her name slid off my lips in my most charming southern drawl I could manage. "You look beautiful, my dear. Absolutely beautiful."

She shuddered as I reached over her and began to take off the blind fold that had been tied tightly around her eyes; I wanted her to be able to see me.

"There … isn't that better?"

She squeezed her eyes shut and blinked them open and closed several times adjusting to the light. When she did finally look up, she only met my eye for a moment before looking away. She was never a woman to say she was afraid and I knew that, but her eyes betrayed her this time. She was afraid. I was glad to see she had learned something since the last time we met. She was right to fear me. I had her life in my hands, and she would do well to know that from here on out.

She started to look a little pale; her eyes fluttered into the back of her head.

"Will someone please help me with Ms. Greene? Let's get her inside to a table and sit her down. She looks a little peaked."

Martinez and Espy ran over and assisted me in helping Maggie up the stairs.

I had them sit her down at a table. I had secured one of the larger estates on the edge of town; I wanted Maggie to feel at home when I saw her for the first time. A beautiful reception of sorts before bringing her back to the base.

She seemed more stable now. I watched as her eyes darted around; no doubt looking for an escape route.

"Maggie, darling. There's no where to run." I paused and smiled; trying to reassure her. "I've got men surrounding the house here; you'd never make it, especially, in your condition."

She just started back; fear and anger flickered in her eyes.

"Oh, come on now … don't be like that. You're a guest here."

We sat there in silence for a moment and then my sweet Maggie began to cry.

"Poor thing, you must be terrified."

I waved over to Martinez; he quickly found his way to my side.

"Please get Miss Greene some water, will you? And, bring me a scotch. I want to celebrate."

"Sure thing, Governor."

Martinez ran off to fetch something for Maggie and I to toast to.

I could tell Maggie was struggling to hold it together, and I didn't want the mother of my child to be so distressed if she didn't have to be.

"I am glad you're here, Maggie. There is so much we have to talk about."

She lifted her head and glared at me and I couldn't help but smile; she looked so cute when she was mad.

"Well, I didn't have much choice in the matter, now did I?"

The laughter just burst out of me, as I tried desperately to respond to her.

"There she is! … There's the Maggie I remember!"

"Fuck you!" She crossed her arms in defiance.

"So much sass from such a sweet little thing … however, you really should know when to hold your tongue."

Martinez returned and walked over and set a glass of water in front of Maggie, which she immediately gulped down. And, a tumbler of scotch in front of me.

Her eyes softened a bit; she seemed troubled by something. She hesitated before responding.

"Where's Beth? Is she okay?"

"Beth? Beth, who?"

"My … my friend. Beth. Your men took her too." She looked at me with deep concern "She's been wounded."

I could feel the heat rise from within me; my face flushed with rage.

Another woman?

Who dared to defy my orders?

I glared at Martinez; I could feel my eye ignite with fury. Someone had some explaining to do; and it better be good.

"Martinez? Care to elaborate on what Ms. Greene is talking' bout?"

"Sir … Lt. Meyers and his man, Nick, captured another prisoner. A young woman."

My response came out as a low hiss. "On who's authority, might I ask?"

Martinez quickly replied; he looked fearful and anxious of what I might do or say next.

"Meyers and Nick acted on their own. And …"

"And, what?"

"She is wounded. Gun shot to the leg. She'll need medical attention."

I looked over at Maggie and gave her a slight smile and then turned my gaze back to Martinez.

"Bring Meyers and Nick in here so they can explain themselves."

Martinez ran outside; I could hear him yelling for Meyers and Nick.

My men knew better than to defy me. Meyers and Nick were on a short leash as it was. If there wasn't a good explanation; we'd be holding court outside this house today and they'd both hang for their non-compliance with a direct order from me.

When Martinez returned this time he had Meyers and Nick in tow. They sauntered in behind him and stood in front of me at the table. I sat back in my chair as I carefully considered their fates.

"Lt. Meyers, care to explain?"

"Well, sir … we just figured two captives were better than one. Twice as much reason for them to come on a rescue mission, don't ya think?"

Meyers tried to appear as confident as he could, but I could tell he knew he'd made a grave mistake today. Nick on the other hand looked cool as a cucumber.

"Anything to say for yourself, Nick?"

"Oh, I think you'll be very pleased with her."

Nick crossed his arms over his chest; he seemed down right proud of his decision. What arrogance this one had; assuming to know what I do and don't want. What I will and won't be pleased with.

I nodded for him to continue. "Well, do tell … tell me why I shouldn't string you two up for insubordination and kill you right now?"

"I know Maggie … from the prison. My brother, Mike, and I stayed there for about a month before they threw us out for no good reason."

He seemed irritated at the memory of his experience at the prison. Interesting …

"You see … the girl we took … that's not just any girl." He paused; a grin appeared across his face stretching from ear to ear. "That's Maggie's sister … Beth Greene."

"Wonderful! Maggie's sister!"
I thought to myself. What a delightful turn of events.

"Really? Maggie dear ... is that true? Is Beth your sister?"

She appeared scared to answer.

"Come on now, tell the truth …"

Tears streamed down her face. She didn't answer, but she didn't have to. Beth was her sister.

"Wonderful! So, we have Maggie and her sister." I paused and gave Nick an approving nod.

"This is good news. Good work, Nick. Lt. Meyers."

Nick puffed up his chest and continued.

"And, that's not the best of it."

My eye shot up to meet his; my eyebrow arched with curiosity.

"And, what would that be? …"

"Ya, see … Beth and that redneck, Daryl." He paused with excitement as he continued. "Ya see ... Beth and Daryl are 'together.' She's his girl."

Like a kid on Christmas morning; this day just kept getting better and better.

"Daryl ... Dixon?"

"Yep, Daryl Dixon." He said proudly. "She's his girl … well, not anymore." He laughed.

"Well … this is certainly good news. That means she's valuable to us. And, since she's valuable to this operation, I will give you a pass; otherwise ... you two would be dead right now. Disobey orders again though … and I'll kill ya myself. Understand?"

The smug smiles on their faces disappeared and they both answered in unison; like obedient soldiers. "Understood."

"So, Maggie? … Daryl and your sister? Interesting … I wouldn't of figured a sister of yours would be slumming it with some backwoods hillbilly, but then again ... I would have never figured a woman like you being with a guy like Glenn either; never understood the attraction there ..."

I rubbed my chin as I found myself deep in thought.

This couldn't have worked out better. Not only did I have that little shit, Glenn's woman; I also had Daryl's. My thoughts raced as I thought of the events that took place at Woodbury. Merle had eventually gotten what he deserved when I left him to die and become a biter, but I still hadn't personally had my revenge on his brother Daryl – the reason the whole war began; the reason my darling Penny was gone. I could feel the anger over her loss brewing inside me, and I began to think of all of things I would do Beth, 'his girl.' ... Ha! When I was done with her, she wouldn't be begging me to live; she'd be begging me to die. And, I'd make sure Daryl heard all of the details; hell, maybe he could have a front row seat?

Maggie's voice brought me out of my thoughts.

"Please don't hurt my sister. Please."

As she begged for her sister, I couldn't help but be touched by her; she seemed so sincere and heartfelt. My Maggie, always thinking of others ...

"You've got to help her. She's been shot. Please! She needs medical attention."

I exhaled deeply as I realized that perhaps my plans for Maggie wouldn't go as planned if I did anything to hurt her sister; she might not be as compliant as I wanted her to be with me.

However ... I could still use her sister as leverage against Maggie, which could prove to be more useful to me - at least for the time being.

"Of course, my dear. We'll head back to base and get her taken care of right away. You have my word."

I stood up from the table.

"But, first … I want a hug."

I extended my arms out to her. She looked up at me from the table; her eyes still filled with tears. Her lips curled into a slight frown. I could tell my request angered her.

"Come on now … don't be shy."

My arms still extended out to her; she just sat there and stared back at me for a few moments.

Then, finally, she spoke.

"No!" She cried. " Never!"

She shook her head. "I'm not going to hug you ... what's wrong with you?"

'Oh, Maggie' I thought to myself. 'Nothing really infuriates me more than when people disobey me.'

"Maggie, darling …" I hissed, as my smile and jaw tightened; covering my very obvious and deep displeasure with her. "I don't think you are fully understanding the situation you now find yourself in."

She looked up, still seated in her chair. Arms folded across her chest, like an insolent little child. And, like a child, I needed to show her that there were consequences to her actions or in-actions. She needed to know who was in charge here.

"Meyers, bring in the girl."

Maggie's eyes widened; fear gripped her face. "What?"

"I said bring her in."

Maggie stood up quickly. "No! Please! She's not well."

I shot my hand up, letting Meyers know that he was to wait for my command.

"If you don't come over here and give me a hug, I will have Lt. Meyers here ... bring in your sister, Beth ... and shoot her."

Maggie gasped; bringing her hand to her chest. "No, please. Stop! I'll … I'll do it. Just please don't hurt her."

I smiled deviously; knowing just how much leverage I really had over Maggie now. This would be fun …

I held my arms out again.

"You're the devil!" Maggie sobbed.

"I know, I know … now come over here ... and give me a hug."

I gestured again for her to come to me. She stared back defiantly at me; I could see the fury in her eyes as she approached. Begrudgingly, she walked slowly into my opened arms. One arm wrapped around her back and the other behind her head, bringing her head to my chest. I pulled her in for a long hug, pressing her body as closely to mine as I could. Holding her in my arms, I could feel our child between us.

I wanted more of her; I wanted to feel her to want me back. So, I leaned down and hissed sweetly into her ear.

"Now hug me back … like you mean it." I grazed my cheek along side her face. "Or, she's dead. Understand?"

She inhaled deeply and shuddered in my arms. But, like a good girl, she did exactly what I said. I could feel her arms wrap around my waist, which I have to admit sent a wave of electricity through my body. Like the excitement of a first kiss; my body tingled and I closed my eye and savored the moment. I didn't know a woman could have that affect on me still.

I pressed my lips to the top of her head and kissed her softly; I could feel her body tremble in my arms. I kept my face close to her; inhaling the sweet scent of her hair. My sweet little Maggie. I held her for a few minutes. I smoothed her hair, which had become a bit of a mess in all of the commotion. I continued to hold her tight; caressing her back, and gently grazing my fingertips along the soft skin on the back of her neck and shoulders where her skin was exposed. It was so very intimate; even I didn't know where I stopped and she began. In a delightful daze, I pulled away from her a bit; just enough to see her face.

"Ahhh ... well, that was nice, wasn't it?" I smiled and looked down at her.

She tilted her head up to meet my gaze. Tears filled her eyes, and she just nodded in yes. No need for words, I suppose. Her tears might not be tears of joy, but I knew she'd learn to love me. She'd realize that it is in the best interest of our child to have both its mother and father together. We'd made a child; therefore ... we created a family. And, as parents, we needed to protect that child together. She may not realize it today or anytime soon, but one day she'd see things my way …

I let go of Maggie, but kept her left hand in mine. I softly rubbed my thumb along the top of her hand as I gave my orders to my men. I felt so satisfied and complete; something I hadn't felt for a very long time.

"Alright boys, let's get ready to head on out." I gestured for my men to wrap it up, and then turned to Lt. Meyers and Nick. "Meyers! Why don't you and Nick go ahead of us and and get that Humvee back to base. Please make sure Ms. Greene's sister gets to Dr. Montgomery as quickly as possible."

I turned to Maggie; her small hand still in mine.

"Everything's gonna be okay; I don't want you worrying bout a thing. As long as you cooperate ... and Beth cooperates, you two will be just fine."

She nodded and then just stared out in front of her; not looking at anything, her eyes glazed over and her jaw was left agape. I assumed she must be a little tired or perhaps a little dazed by the dramatic events of the day. I wasn't mad at her at all; I understood completely. It had been a big day for us all.

"It's okay." I pulled her hand and began to lead her out of the house. "You're going to be riding with me, my dear."

She looked up in despair; only a single tear fell down her cheek this time.

"Just make sure Beth is okay. I'll do whatever you want. Just make sure she's okay."

She didn't say another word as I led her outside and back to my truck. I carefully helped her down the stairs and even opened the door for her, helping her into the front seat. I made sure to put the seat belt on her and closed the door. I excitedly ran around the front of the truck and climbed into the driver's seat. I quickly looked in the back and saw that my men were not in there … they must have known I'd like some time alone with Maggie. And, they were right. I did want some time alone with her. I was glad I didn't have to order any of them to leave. I had wanted everything to be perfect for Maggie; as pleasant as possible. And, it was; everything was perfect now. I smiled as I looked over at Maggie; the mother of my child; my second chance.

"Guess the boys wanted to give us some time to ourselves. Nice of them, don't you think?"

She nodded and rested her head against the window of truck.

As we drove away from the estate and made our way out of town, I found myself periodically checking Maggie, making sure she was okay; looking at her belly and our baby. She seemed withdrawn; sitting there in silence, just looking out the window.

I did see her eyes flicker a bit as we passed by the sign that read 'You're now leaving LaGrange, Georgia.' She continued to watch the tree line as we made our way to the main highway back to Fort Benning. I desperately wanted to engage her in more conversation, but I figured I'd leave it to when we got back to base. There was much to explain to her, but perhaps it could wait a little while. I knew she might not be too pleased with some of the rules and regulations regarding her new life at Fort Benning, and I certainly didn't want to argue with her right now. I'd wait until I brought her home to get into all of that. Until then, I decided to just let the time pass in silence. Time for her to relax from the chaos of today, and time for me prepare for her homecoming ...

I couldn't wait for her to see our new home ...

Oh, my god ... how awful is The Governor? He's so creepy and delusional ...

As you all know, I try to write him more like the comic book Governor, so I really want to know what you all thought of his interactions with Maggie this Chapter. The 'give me hug' scene: this encounter is very innocent, but just gives you a sense of what's to come ...

So, let me know what you thought about this chapter; like it, love it, hate it ... let me know your thoughts. If you've got a moment, please leave me a note or comment on your way out ... I'd love to hear from you all :-D

** I've got Chapter Seventeen ready to post ... So, as soon as this current chapter get's 6 reviews - I'll post it! I know, I know ... I'm a sucker for comments and reviews. So, it's a bit of a bribe, but it seems to be working ... so, I'm hoping to hear from more of you ;-)

Here's a Teaser Chapter Seventeen:
Glenn, Daryl and the group discuss what they are going to do and Michonne brings the group some interesting news that will complicate things ...

This story is amazing! I love the way you're having The Governor be more like he was in the comics... poor Maggie! I also like that while this is mainly about Maggie and The Governor, you've put some Bethyl in there. Can't wait for the next chapter!
