Now, back to our story ...

Maggie's POV –

It had been a couple of hours, since he left me there to "get ready" for tonight. I had gotten cleaned up and changed, per his request. He said he wanted me in something nice, so I put on a dress I had found in the closet. I hated thinking about why he wanted me in something nice and what he possibly had in store for me tonight. I dreaded at the thought of it. I knew I was truly at his mercy. I was nine months pregnant and locked in his apartment with no viable options for escaping (at least for the time being). I had to play this game with him; I had to … for the sake of my baby and for Beth. If I could do anything to shield her from anything … I had to try.
I found several lanterns that were scattered around the house and lit them, placing them throughout the living room. Even with the lanterns, the room was only dimly lit. I took a seat in the living room on the couch and within a half hour or so I heard the deadlocks on the front door begin to unlock.

I felt my stomach start to get queasy.

Oh, God … he's back!

One after another … click, click, click.

The door opened and I looked over and he sauntered into the room. Behind him was another man; he was a big guy, muscles, mid thirties, and looked … 'official.' He was wearing military clothes like the rest of them, but this guy seemed … professional. Had to be military before all this shit went down. You could just tell.

"James. I want ya to meet Maggie. Maggie Greene."

He motioned for the man to walk over to me.

"Now Maggie, don't be rude. Ya stand up and say hello to the man. He's my very skilled 2nd in command … and responsible for your successful extraction. Lt. James Stanfield." He paused and motioned again for the man to come to me and introduce himself. "You can just call him Lt. James … everyone else round here does."

As he walked towards me, I began to stand up.

"Careful, ma'am."

He ran over to me and grabbed me by my arm and helped me stand up.

"Thank you."

The man looked at me, and then looked at my very pregnant belly. He had a hint of sadness behind his eyes.

"Nice to meet you, Maggie."

"Nice … to meet you, Lt. James."

I extended my hand, which he gently grasped. He gave me a hint of a smile, but I could tell he wasn't really smiling though. And, it wasn't for the lack of light in the room … he actually looked like he felt bad for me.

That's interesting; I thought … maybe someone around here doesn't think that kidnapping me was a good idea after all? Maybe …

"Well, Boss." James turned around to face The Governor. "I'll be sure the men are on their way with dinner and I'll be seeing ya tomorrow."

I carefully sat back down on the couch and James turned to leave.

The Governor eyed James as he made his way to the entryway. "Thank you, James."

He gave The Governor a quick nod. Then, he said goodbye to me, which I found odd. The man lowered his head a bit. "Ma'am." And, then walked out the door.

Then, I could hear the dead bolts lock again; this time from the inside.

My heart sank …

"Well, don't you look radiant tonight?" He walked over to me and sat next to me on the couch. "I couldn't imagine you ever looking more beautiful than you do right now."

God, he was sick!

He reached for the fabric of my dress and slowly lifted it up; exposing my legs.

"The dress is perfect; you look incredible."

He reached into my inner thighs; spreading my legs a part and then ran his hand along the top of my leg. The feel of his hands on my body sent chills down my spine and goosebumps all over my skin; he was unnerving … in the worst possible way.

I just sat there as still as I could, without making a sound.

He leaned in and kissed me softly on my neck; keeping his hand between my legs. His hand creeping further and further up my leg.

"Uh …" I inhaled quickly; unintentionally whimpering. I just couldn't help it. This was all just too much.

I didn't know how I was going to be able to do this. And, even if I could … for how long?

Then, there came a knock at the door.

Thank God!

It felt like someone had just saved my life, and a weight lifted from me as he got up and opened the door.

There were several young men standing there; they looked to be some of his soldiers.

"Go ahead, boys. Set it down on the dinner table."

Three men filed in, each with items for our "special night" I presumed.

They unloaded linens and candles for the table and lit candles all over the room. The glow was enough that it lit up the room.

When they were done, The Governor excused them and they filed out as quickly as they arrived. Must've taken five minutes, and my reprieve from The Governor was over.

"Why don't ya come on over here and have a seat?"

He motioned for me to have a sit down at the table. I quickly got up and walked over to the table and took a seat across from him.

"You. You're perfect." He waved his hand back and forth. "It's just the way the candle light hits your face. The dress. It's all … just perfect."

Oh my god …

I just rolled my eyes and then stared back at him.

"Well, shall we? Before it gets cold …"

He set the napkin down on his lap, and followed his lead. Then, he immediately dug in.

"It's roasted pheasant, Maggie."

I nodded.

I looked down at the meal … pheasant, carrots, and potatoes. It smelled good, but I couldn't bring myself to eat. Instead I found myself just pushing the food around on the plate.

"Maggie … you've hardly touched your meal."

"Guess I'm not that hungry …"

I glared at him and gave him a quick fake smile.

"Hmmm …" He paused and took another bite of his food. "You know, Maggie. I went through a lot of trouble for tonight. You could at least a little appreciative."

"Appreciative! You're outta your … fuckin' mind."

"You know … ya should really watch your mouth. If ya keep it up, I might just have to come on over there and kiss your dirty little mouth."

I grimaced.

"Would ya like that, Maggie? Would ya like me to come on over there … and kiss your dirty mouth?"

"No! … I wouldn't like that at all."

"Well, then … I suggest ya watch what comes outta your mouth then, hmmm?"

I just couldn't understand how any person could ever end up this evil. I couldn't even stand to be in his presence. He continued to eat and we sat there in silence at the dinner table.

Finally, I broke the silence.

"How could he do this to me? I'm pregnant. How could ya do somethin' like this?

"Well, what ever do ya mean?"

He looked perplexed by my question.

"Are you that cruel as to kidnap a pregnant woman … just for revenge?"

I only mentioned myself, as I didn't think he knew about Beth being pregnant yet.

"Yes, well … to be honest … I didn't take ya just for revenge, sweetheart."

"What? Do ya get off just hurtin' people for no good reason? Cause I just don't know how anyone could be more cruel and despicable as you!"

God, I hated him …

"Well, it's not just revenge, Maggie. I didn't just kidnap you for fun. There is a plan here"

I didn't even want to ask, but I did anyways.

"What plan …?"

"Well, I knew they would come after you. A rescue mission is almost definitely in the works as we speak."

The thought of it sent hope coursing through me. He was right, they would be figuring out some way to come for me and Beth. I knew they would. Glenn would never stop looking for me, and I knew Daryl would never stop looking for Beth.

Then, my heart sank with his next words.

"It's a trap!" He paused and gave me a devilish grin. "It's a trap, Maggie. And, you and your sister … are the bait!"

No!!!! My mind started racing ...

"What do ya mean, a trap?"

"They can't possibly know where ya are just yet. They're gonna have to spend some time trackin' ya. But, I'm sure that redneck boyfriend of your little sister, will eventually track you two back here."

I just sat there and listened.

"And, we've got hundreds of men here, Maggie. Military grade guns, ammo, tanks. You name it
– we've got it."

"But … why?"

"What do ya mean why? Because of Woodbury. Merle. Daryl. Andrea. Michonne. That pretentious little shit, Rick. Glenn … you. And …"

"And, what?"

He got quiet and responded almost in a whisper. "And, for Penny."

Me sayin' her name seemed to make somethin' go off inside of him.

"Don't ya ever say her name again." He paused. "But, if ya must know. That bitch Michonne killed my little girl. My little sweetheart."

She was a walker. She was dead. And, he was acting as if Michonne had killed his real daughter. In all reality, Michonne had done the poor girl a service by ending her existence as a walker. It was mercy, not revenge that she put Penny down. But, this lunatic would never see it as that. That was obvious.

We sat in silence for a while again. Then he told me about the trap and what he planned on doin'. I couldn't believe it …

"They're all gonna come a runnin' … lookin' to save they're precious girls. And, ya know what it's gonna get them? Hmmm?"

I shook my head no. I dreaded hearing what awful things he had in store for them.

"It's gonna get them all dead. They're gonna come for ya. And, it doesn't which way they do…they're not gonna make it. I've got guards on the look out on the road. I'm hopin' to capture them alive and bring them back here for my own amusements. But, my men have their orders. Dead or alive. Makes no difference to me at this point."

Jesus Christ! He was just gonna kill them all! He'd been plannin' this for a while. I could tell. He wanted them all dead, and he was gonna use me to get to them. I couldn't have that on my conscience. I just couldn't …

"I won't let you use me to kill my family. Or, to kill all of those innocent people."

"Ya really don't have a choice in the matter sweetheart."

"I could just refuse to eat. Or, find another way … and, just kill myself. Then, ya wouldn't be able to use me against them."

He laughed.

"Now, Maggie. Don't go and do anything foolish like that."

"Why not? I'd rather die then let you use me to kill all those people. My life is worth there's."

"You are brave Maggie. I know you probably would do that … if ya thought it would help."

He paused and took another bite of food, and washed it down with scotch.

"Now, you really aren't threatening to kill yourself … and the life of your unborn child … are you? Ya can't seriously think I believe you would do such a thing?"

I started to tear up.

"I would. I would if my life … this child's life … would save everyone else's…"

His brow furrowed, his lips tightened and his jaw clenched. He really did not like me insinuating that I would kill myself or this child.

That really pissed him off…

"I don't want to have to reiterate things like this … but, ya really give me no choice."

"What …?"

"Well, if ya do anything as foolish as takin' your own like. Sacrificing it now, or later." He paused and wiped his mouth with his napkin and continued. "I do still have your sister … I have your sweet young sister, Beth. Do anything foolish like tryin' to escape or try to be noble and take your own life … I'll have to take out any punishments on her."

He glared at me and threw his napkin and slammed his hand down on the table. It was so loud that I jumped in my chair, as I thought he might explode, or throw somethin' … he looked so angry.

"Let me just as clear as I can … if ya kill yourself, if ya escape. Hell, if ya even try to escape … well, I'll just make sure that the rest of Beth's life is like a nightmare, not even you could imagine."

I was terrified by what he said next …

"I'll just give Beth to … all of my men." He paused. "Let them have their way with her … day and night - every day."

"She is a sweet little thing … ya don't want that for your sister, now do ya?"

I was broken; completely devastated.

I started to cry. My lip quivered as I responded. "No! … Please don't hurt her …"

"Well, if you behave and do what I ask … I won't have to."

I nodded; tears slipped down my cheeks.

He smiled. "You are goin' to behave aren't you, Maggie? And, be a good girl for me?"

"Yes." I whimpered.

"Ya promise me?"

Now, he was just bein' so cruel. Messin' with me …

"I'll be good. I promise. Just don't hurt her …"

"I will make sure no harm comes to your sister." He paused and took a sip of scotch. "I'll even make sure she's protected from the men. She'll have a good man to look after her."

What did he mean by that?!

"A good man? What good man? What are ya talkin' about?"

"Well, that brings me to another topic."

I looked up, fearful of what he might say next.

"What …?

"Bein' that you two are goin' to be guests here for a while. I will need to make arrangements for your sister."

"What do ya mean, arrangements?"

"I'm going to give her to my second in command … Lt. James." He smiled as if what he just said was completely insignificant; he just went back to eating his food.

I was outraged. I slammed both my hands down on the table beside my plate.

"What?! Give her ...? What do you mean you're going to give her to someone?"

"Well, she has to be someone's, Maggie … she can't be no one's woman. I just won't be able to explain that to the men." He meticulously cut into his steak and took another bite. "However, if she belongs to Lt. James; they won't question it … and they certainly won't try anything. James is a good guy. Former Army Ranger – a very effective and deadly soldier … but, a good guy, nonetheless."

I just stared back blankly. I didn't even have words to respond to this monster that sat before me.

"What? I thought you'd be happy?"

What nerve he had!

I continued to try and argue with him in the hopes that some sort of sanity would prevail.

"Happy?! That my sister is going to be given to some man. She's with Daryl. She loves Daryl."
I couldn't stop the tears that started. "How can you do this to us?"

"Well, the sooner you forget about Glenn and the sooner she forgets about Daryl - the better."

He paused and looked around the room; waving his hands in the air, pointing to the different areas of the house. "This is your life now, Maggie. Here! With me!"

He paused again to take another bite. "And, this is her life now. Here, with James."

I couldn't respond. Again, I was speechless. I was in shock.

"Or, if you like … I can give her to the men. Would you prefer that?" He seemed genuinely interested in my response; as if I was going to think that might possibly be a better alternate for Beth. He pointed his finger at me and winked. "You let me know."

All I could do was cry. This was a nightmare … and I couldn't wake myself up.

"Well? What would you have me do?"

I just shook my head and then placed both my hands over my face; I wanted to hide from him.

"James or the rest of the men …?"

How could he make me make a decision like that? There was no easy answer, no good choice. But, I knew there was one that was the lesser of two evils. Perhaps I could spare Beth some anguish.

"James." I quietly whispered.

"What was that?"

"You heard me you son of a bitch … James!"

"Good. It's settled then. I'll let James know the happy news."

He took his napkin from his lap and wiped the sides of his mouth before setting it to the side of his plate and standing. His proper etiquette was nauseating.

"As soon as Beth is better, I will have her moved to his quarters. I'm sure he'll be pleased."

He'll be pleased echoed in my head …

I couldn't believe I just had to 'give' my sister to anyone. He couldn't be crueler than to make me give an order that would send my sister to any man … not when I knew she was in love with Daryl and pregnant with his child.

God only knows what this guy will do to her. I just hoped it was better than what the entire militia at Fort Benning would do to her. It was the lesser of two evils … and I hoped one day she could forgive me …

"God help us both!" I thought, as I began to openly sob.

He walked over towards my side of the table. Closer and closer. He made my skin crawl as he drew nearer.

He stood just to the side of me; hovering above me. I closed my eyes, wishing with all my might that he would just disappear.

"Aren't you going to eat?"

I could smell the scotch on his breath. He was drunk now; I was sure of it.

I just kept my eyes closed; I couldn't even look at him.

"You really should eat. Ya know … you're eating for two now. You have to make sure you take care of our baby."

"Our baby?" How could he say that? After what he did to me?

I just sat there in silence.

I was frozen …

I couldn't move...

Inside my head I was screaming, but nothing was coming out. I couldn't say a word.

He leaned down and screamed in my face. "EAT! Damnit!"

Then, he slammed his hand down hard on the table. He hit it so hard that the table shook; silverware went flying and my glass jumped off the table; shattering into a million pieces on the floor.

I reached for my fork and took a small bite. He leaned over and grabbed a hold of my chin and shook my head. He then leaned in closer to me, so that his face was right in front of mine.

"Good girl, Maggie… that's more like it."

He smiled and abruptly let go of my chin; I could already feel where the bruises would be tomorrow on my face tomorrow.

This was just dinner conversation to him …I couldn't even think about all the ways he planned on terrorizing me while I was there. One thing I did know … was that this was only the beginning.

I know, I know ... poor Maggie.

The Governor is just truly evil (but, I am having fun writing him as diabolical as he is in the comics). That being said, things are going to worse before they get better for Maggie ... the nightmare is far from over :(

This story is amazing! I love the way you're having The Governor be more like he was in the comics... poor Maggie! I also like that while this is mainly about Maggie and The Governor, you've put some Bethyl in there. Can't wait for the next chapter!
