Maggie's Nightmare

Maggie's Nightmare: Chapter 20 - Part Two

As always, thank you to everyone who is reading and following this story ... I appreciate it.

And, a Special Thank you to TheUndead, JamieM, xoDarylxo, and JustThea for commenting on the last chapter - you all seriously rock! I love you all!

Now, back to our story ...

The Governor's POV –

She could be so willful; something I loved and hated about her.

"That's better, Maggie."

Did she really need to fight me on everything? Even about eating? Jesus!

At least she was behavin' now. She was eating; one small bite at a time

"Now, you're gonna finish that entire plate." She looked up at me. "And, we can sit here at the table until you do. I have all night …"

I leaned down and gently kissed her on the top of her head.

Then, there was a loud knock on the door.

Who the hell is that? I gave orders not to be interrupted.

I growled under my breath.

"I'll get that …"

I stormed over to the door and when I unlocked the door and opened it … I was surprised to see
Nick Foster on my doorstep.

"Nick? Can I help you?"

I looked over at Maggie and her head hung low as she continued to pick at her food like a child.

"Just got back from the hospital. Me, Meyers and James were there checkin' on Beth."

"Ahh … Beth …."

I could see Maggie turn to look at us in the doorway once she heard her sister's name. Nick looked over my shoulder at Maggie sitting at the table and then back at me. In his eyes, I could tell he look distressed.

"Well? Out with it, Nick!"

"She's outta surgery now and in recovery and she's sleepin' now …"

Nick looked over at Maggie again, who looked back eagerly awaiting to hear about her sister's fate.

"Dr. Montgomery said … she's gonna do just fine. Full recovery. Just needs a few days at the hospital so he can keep an eye on her. But, he said he expected her to make a full recovery."

I looked over at Maggie; she looked relieved. She even smiled a bit.

Seeing her smile warmed my hear; I hoped one day to be able to elicit such smiles from her …

"Yes, Nick?"

He looked over at Maggie again; he looked anxious.

"Can I have a word with you?"

I stood in front of him, blocking his view from Maggie. I glared back at him and sneered.

"Can't ya see I'm spending time with my …" I nodded; gesturing towards Maggie. "My Maggie, here?"

"I can see that, Sir. Just need a moment of your time, is all."

"And, it cannot wait until tomorrow?"

"No, sir. I'd like to have a word now, if I can."

He seems determined. I suppose I'll give him a minute of my time, but this better be good.

I was more than just a little irritated by his intrusion into my romantic dinner with Maggie, but I agreed to speak with him to see what was so urgent that couldn't wait until tomorrow.
I nodded and motioned for him to step back into the hallway. I closed the door behind me, so Maggie couldn't hear what we were talkin' bout.

"So, what is it?"

I crossed my arms and waited to hear what he had to say.

"Well, ya see, Sir." He paused and scratched the back of his head and exhaled deeply before continuing. "As ya know, I stayed at the prison for a while. That's where I met the group there … and Maggie … and Beth. And, ya see … while I was there, I had a 'thing' ya might say, with Beth."

I nodded prompting him to continue.

"We were gettin' close, real close. Then, that hillbilly, Daryl, started interfering with things. And, well, that's what led to Mike and I havin' to leave."

"I am aware of the situation, Nick. What's that got to do with anythin'?"

"Well…" He paused and scratched the back of his head and then stood up straight and looked directly at me.

He looked me dead in the eye and with a more serious tone of voice; he finally got around the request that had obviously been weighin' heavily on his mind.

"I'd like to request that Beth be transferred to me once she's well …for protection, that is."

"Protection, huh?"

"Yes, Sir. Just don't want to see her thrown to all the men, is all." He paused. He looked very sincere as he continued. "Beth is special … both her and Maggie … just wouldn't be right."

"Well, Nick." I smiled and glared at him; replying as 'politely' and as firmly as I could. "I decide what is … and is not right around here. You know that."

"I do. I…I … just thought. Well, maybe Maggie would be a lot happier here knowin' her little sister is bein' looked after." He paused and nervously smiled. "I know she's real protective of her, that's for sure."

"You are right about that." I couldn't help but laugh. "And, I agree with you …Maggie would prefer her sister be looked after … I am sure if it."

"You do?"

"Yes, I do." I smiled. "And, that's why I've already made arrangements for Beth."

"What other arrangements? Wha …?"

I cut him off; interrupting him. "Beth Greene is to become the property of Lt. James once she is well enough."

"James?! James?!" He huffed. His breathing became rapid and shallow. He was obviously not too pleased by this news. He seemed panicked. "James …. why Lt. James?"

I really didn't like him questioning me; an offense that could get a man killed around here. But, I was in too good of a mood. And, bein' that Maggie was just behind the other side of the door … I decided I'd let him live another day.

"I don't need to explain my motives or decisions to you … Nick. You're a lot lower on the totem pole round here … you'd do well to remember that."

"But, Governor …"

I just wanted him to get out of my hair at this point.

"Perhaps another girl … sometime in the future."

He leaned in towards me; his tone more insistent and reeking of desperation.

Men who cannot go out and get what they want and take it for themselves will never survive in this new world. I watched on as Nick continued to beg.

"Please, Sir. I…I … love her."

Well, this is just gettin' pathetic now …

"I'm sorry bout that Nick, but it's already been settled. Beth will be transferred to Lt. James just as soon as she is well enough to leave the hospital."

I paused and put my hand on his shoulder.

"And, that's final, Nick. Do … you … understand?"

He obviously got the not so subtle hint … that this was a mute point and he would do well to drop it.

He started to take a few steps backward. "I … I understand." He lowered his head; his jaw clenched tight. "I understand, just fine."

"Good … then, that'll be all for tonight."

"Yes, Sir."

He turned and walked away down the hallway and to the staircase.

I exhaled deeply; trying to shake off the conversation. I did hate it when anyone questioned my authority. Nick, certainly was a lucky man to still breathing.

But, it's over now … back to my sweet, sweet Maggie …

I walked back inside and sat down across from her at the table.

"Now …where were we …?"

I was pleased when I sat down to see that Maggie had eaten most of her meal.

She was just bein' difficult before … typical.

"Hmm … looks like you were hungry after all?" I smiled and stood up.

I reached my hand over to her; gesturing for her to take it. She grabbed a hold of my hand and I led her back to the couch.

She sat down and I joined her; sitting close to her. Keepin' her hand in mine. I looked over at her and she seemed down. I brushed the hair from her face, so I could get a better look at her.

"Aren't you happy, Maggie? Beth is going to be just fine."

Maggie looked over at me concerned.

"What did Nick want?"

"Oh, nothin' … we just were havin' a little conversation about how things work around here. Seems he needed a little remindin' about some things."

Her eyes widened. "What things?"

"Well, Maggie, sweetheart. That's none of your concern, alright?"

She shook her head and quietly replied. "Fine!"

I exhaled deeply; staring back at the mother of my child. This beautiful creature that had given me everything in this world I needed. I still could just pinch myself at how everythin' just worked out. How God must've been smilin' on me all this time; even when I thought all was lost.
And, there was this precious miracle growin' inside of her. I smiled at the thought. I couldn't believe how fate had brought us together and how things just … fell into place. If I hadn't found Merle, if he hadn't run into and captured Maggie and Glenn, if she hadn't been so stubborn and willful and just told me right away about the prison … well … none of this would have been possible. It just worked out perfectly; like there was really a plan to all this madness.

I reached over and touched her belly; Maggie flinched underneath my touch.

"What …what are ya doin'?"

"I'm just wanted to see if I could feel her kick."

She pushed my hand off her stomach.

"I'd prefer if ya didn't do that."

Defiant little creature …

"Now, now … that's no way to treat the father of your baby."

Maggie hissed.

"You are not …this baby's father!"

"Sure…" I slyly smiled back.

If she wanted to play games, I would play with her.

"And, why would you say somethin' as hurtful as that, Maggie?"

"What the hell are you talkin' bout?" She sat up straight; tryin' her best to look stern. "You have lost your damn mind if you think this baby is yours."

She huffed and puffed as she continued. "You're crazy!"

"Uh, huh …" I paused. "I know this baby ain't that little Chinese fella of yours." I continued, letting his name hiss off my lips. "Glenn … I know this baby ain't his."

"Glenn and I are married now! … And, this is his baby."

Her eyes started to fill to the brim with tears.

I mockingly frowned and furrowed my brow.

"I do hate it when you cry …." A devilish grin then swept over my face. "I'll tell ya what … if this baby comes out lookin' anythin' like him, I'll let you and your sister go."

I could see her eyes light up. I stood up and walked over to the bottle of scotch on the table and poured myself another drink. I turned and faced her.

"Ya will?" Her eyes were wide; eagerly awaiting my response.

"Sure, I will." I smiled and took a drink. "But, we both know that ain't gonna happen … and we
both know … that this baby … is mine."

"It's not, I swear to God it's not!"

I couldn't control my laughter.

"Now Maggie … Come on, darlin'? I'm not stupid. I can do the math. We both know that baby is mine. Ain't no use in denyin' it."

She was a funny girl …

She started to cry. "It's not your baby …"

"Oh, come on now, Maggie. …"

I paused and walked back over to her and sat down, placing my scotch on the table beside me. I grabbed one of her hands and placed it in mine; gently tracing circles on top of her hand.
I caressed her face. "Don't lie to me!" I started to get a little angry at her inference that this child was not mine. "Come on now … I wanna hear ya say it."

She stared back defiantly, but the tears that came readily down her face betrayed her.

"It's not …" She quietly replied; her answer muffled with tears.

Now I want to her say it. I want her to look me in the eye and tell me the truth. Tell me that this is my baby. That I got her pregnant and she carryin' – my child! Not Glenn's!

"I wanna hear ya say. I want ya tell me the truth!" I grabbed her face hard with my free hand and squeezed tightly as I glared back at her. I could see the fear behind her eyes. "That baby ain't gonna come out lookin' like Glenn … because … it's … mine!"

I was done going around in circles with the girl …we both knew the truth and I wanted her to admit it once and for all.

I gave her my most gentile smile … and then screamed in her face. I screamed so loud, she closed her eyes and flinched in fear.

"Now say it, Maggie! … Say it! … Tell me ... I'm the father! Tell me I fathered that baby inside of you … say it!"

Her teary eyes filled with rage, she yanked her hand out of mine and she screamed right back at me; getting right in my face.

"Fine! Alright!" She yelled back in my face. "I'll say it!"

There she was … my little firecracker!

Her jaw clenched; her lips tightened. She replied as calmly as she could, but her tears and sobs could not be quelled …try as she might.

"Yes … you're the father." She lowered her head; tears slipped down her face and onto her lap.

She sniffled and wiped her cheeks.

I just sat there and smiled.

"I'm happy to finally hear ya say it. But, don't get me wrong … I never once believed that this child wasn't mine. Not once." I paused. "And, I don't appreciate ya lyin' to me about it. Ya can't lie to a man's face and tell him that he is not the father, when ya know perfectly well that he is…" I paused again. "It just ain't right, Maggie. I'm gonna be a daddy … how could ya ever think about takin' that away from me?"

She peered up at me, anger flicked behind her eyes. With all of her might, she shouted out.

"You'll never be this baby's daddy! Never!"

What nerve she had sayin' that to me, of all people?

I laughed. "Ha!" I smiled. "That is funny, Maggie."

"What's so funny bout that?" She growled.

"Why do ya think I brought ya all the way back here for, huh?" My eye narrowed and my lips tightened. "Huh? For a little game of cat and mouse with your friends at the prison?"

She stared back confused by my remark.

"No, no, no … I brought ya back here … cause once I saw you. Once I saw that you were pregnant … Well, I knew that baby was mine."

She looked stunned.

"You …ya planned all this …?

"I did …all for you, darlin'." I smirked and took another drink.

"And, what … what about Beth?" She whimpered. "Why'd ya take her?"

"A ... happy accident, really. I hadn't planned on takin' her … But, now that she's here …" I laughed. "I can see our little arrangement here is goin' to go much smoother, wouldn't ya say so?"

"I hate you …" She cried.

"Well, that doesn't matter much right now. What matters to me … is this child."

She sat there weeping for a few minutes. I suppose it was a bit of a shock to hear that so much of my time and energy went into … her.

"Please … please don't this … I'm beggin' ya." She looked up at me. "After everythin' you've done … please stop. Please don't hurt me ... or my sister. This is a nightmare … ya can't be that cruel, can you?"

That was an excellent question. But, I didn't see this as cruelty. Obviously, her group was incapable of protecting her. She was safer with me. With a baby on the way, I would think she would realize that eventually her group would fail her. Their incompetence would eventually one day cost her her life … or possibly her child's life.

No, no, no … she was safer here with me. She'd come to see that one day.

"Ya know Maggie … I hope one day you'll see that you are better off here with me. Safer. I can actually protect ya here."

"Protect me? You raped me, you monster!" She shook head in disbelief. "And, then you kidnapped me once you realized that your act of cruelty, your act of hate, created a life. And, instead of leavin' me be … you are terrorizin' me all over again. How could you do that to me?"

I leaned in close to her. I talked as calmly and sweetly as I could in this moment.

"Listen here, Maggie. I don't want to ever hear that come of your mouth again. That night ... wasn't rape ... Not if a child came from it." I paused. "Ya hear me? It's a gift from God ... for the both of us ... a chance at a real future ... we were meant to be together. It's plain to see …"

Her face scrunched up and she continued to cry. "No …! No, it's not!"

"Yes … and you … and this little baby … are mine ... And, you're gonna be stayin' here with me ... There is no escape ... no rescue comin' for ya ... and no hope outside these walls. Do ya understand? You're life is now here with me!"

She screamed out and tried to push me away. "No! Never!

I didn't want to have to hurt her, so I tried to console her. I wrapped my arms around her.

"There, there …" I tried to quiet her.

She stopped cryin' for a moment and pushed me away.

"Stop it. Just stop!"

"Now, you're gonna be stayin' here and Beth is gonna be stayin' here … you just need to decide
in what capacity." I paused and rubbed my jaw; it was tense from all this quarrelin'. "Ya can either be here by my side willingly, or I can take it forcefully. Either way, Maggie … ya need to start gettin' used to the idea."

"No, I can't …" She looked at me desperately. "Please, just let me leave her … and take my sister. Please …!"

"It's not gonna happen." I paused and bit my lower lip; tryin' to think of how I can better explain this to her.

"Now listen here and listen good … I will … never … let ya leave her with my child, Maggie. That … will ….never … happen." I nodded my head. "Okay?"

"This can't be it. Please, isn't there another way. Ya can't possibly want to keep me here against my will? Ya can't possibly ask this of me …"

I smiled. "I can. And, I will … What? Did you think you were gonna have a happy ending with you … and Glenn … and my baby?" I laughed and shook my head. "Now you're the real crazy one here…!"

She whimpered and sat back against the couch and looked off. She just sat there and stared off at the wall.

Poor thing …

"I know it's a lot to take in … In time though, you'll thank me."

I got up and walked towards the bedroom.

"Time for bed, Maggie." I held my hand out and gestured for her to get up.

She shook her head no.

"Now, you get up and walk in her on your own." I paused. "Or, I can drag ya in there kickin' and screamin' … your choice."

She got up and passed by my outstretched hand and walked into the bedroom.

"Good girl."

"Fuck you" She whispered.

Like I said, she's a little firecracker!

"That's it. Now get changed and come on to bed."

She shook her head and went for the dresser drawer and grabbed her pajamas and walked into the bathroom to change. Normally, I would have protested, but I figured I'd give her tonight to get used to things. While she changed, I made my way through the house extinguishing all of the candles and remnants of our romantic dinner and headed back into the bedroom. I stripped down to nothin' and hopped into bed.

I could see she wasn't pleased that I was already in bed when she walked out. She had a scowl on her face as she walked towards the bed and sat down. I patted my hand on the mattress and told her to lay down.

"You should get some rest. Looks like ya could use a good night's sleep."

She looked over at me; fear and anger in her eyes.

"Don't worry, I won't bite." I smiled. "At least not tonight … ya got nothin' to worry bout. I'll keep my hands to myself. Promise …"

She laid down beside me slowly, cautiously keepin' an eye on me. I smiled at her. She turned to face away from me, while I turned off the lanterns near the bed.

I'd give her tonight to get used to the idea; to get used to the reality of her new life here. But, I won't always be so accommodating.

That mean ole Governor ... he's such a dick!

****SPOILER ALERT * WARNING * If you haven't seen Sunday's episode (11/17), don't read further! *****

It's funny, after watching TWD the other night, we all got to see a very different Govna than the one who massacred all those people. Not what I was expecting at all. You get to see him mourn the loss of Woodbury and essentially he comes to realize he was the bad guy. He meets up with Lilly/Tara/Meghan and starts to regain that love and attachment to people.

That being said ...

As Daivd Morrissey said in Talking Dead, that evil Govna is still there, just waiting for the switch to flip. However, nice and sweet he may have seemed in this last episode, I have a feeling we are going to see him flip that switch again. It would be a good twist. The writer's through us off by making him look remorseful, sympathetic and even likeable ... and then ... he flips the switch going full on Governor again.

What do you all think? I'm so curious as to whether or not you all think he's a changed man or if the evil Governor will come out to play here in the end?

As for the chapter and my evil Governor, let me know what you think; like it, love it, hate it ... let me know your thoughts. If you've got a moment, please leave me a note or comment on your way out ... I'd love to hear from you all :-D

This story is amazing! I love the way you're having The Governor be more like he was in the comics... poor Maggie! I also like that while this is mainly about Maggie and The Governor, you've put some Bethyl in there. Can't wait for the next chapter!
