Lost Redemption

Soothing Tension

Nora tried desperately to free herself from the ropes. She knew it was a long shot, but still, she reached for the knives in her batbelt. “Of course” she thought to herself when she realised they had taken it away. The woman noticed Nora moving around and said with an extremely calm voice, “Stop moving so much, you're gonna hurt yourself”. The man added, “And be careful, your brother's right next to you, you don't wanna kick him, do you?”. Addressing the man, the woman said, “Who knows? Maybe she does. After all, it's his fault they got caught”. More than being scared of her current situation, Nora was extremely curious about who this “brother” was. She had been travelling alone for a year, she had no idea what they were talking about.

The car stopped after what felt like 15 minutes. Nora got pulled out of the car and carried into a room where the blindfolds and ropes were taken off. To her surprise, it wasn't some sort of filthy questioning room but a small living room. It was rather clean too for new, post-apocalyptic standards. The woman who had brought Nora to this place was with her. She was thin and had short, grey hair. She was a strong woman but had kind eyes and a really soothing voice. She apologised for the travelling set up but before she could finish Nora said, “You don't need to do that. You can't trust the living any more than you can trust the dead”. The woman smirked and said, “Well then, you're right not to trust us either”. She sat down in one of the chairs and said, “I'm Carol. What's your name?” as she motioned Nora to sit on the opposite chair. “My name's Nora”, she said as she sat down.

They sat in silence for a little bit, staring and wondering just how much they could trust each other. Nora broke the silence when she asked, “Where's my brother?”. She still couldn't stop thinking about it, she needed to know who this person was. Carol assured her he was OK and that she could see him as soon as they finished their talk.
“How long have you been travelling alone?” asked Carol.“I don't know, feels like a long time” said Nora, trying to give her uncertain answers in case they were asking “her brother” the same questions.

“Did you lose your community?” asked Carol.

“Yes.”

“Were you sent here by anyone?”

“No, we've been on our own for a while.”

“How do I know you're telling me the truth?” asked Carol suspiciously.

“You don't, just like I don't know what your plans are with us” answered Nora coldly. She had been in this kind of situation before – taken by a group – and she knew things could go very wrong. With the zombie apocalypse came a complete dehumanisation of the living. The world she lived in now was a place where no one could be trusted.

Carol stared at her, wondering if she believed this girl or not. She opened a bag that was next to her and pulled Nora's “batbelt” out. “This is an interesting collection of weapons” she said as she took out the amputation knife, then added, “This one in particular, can I ask where you got this?”.“I got that from my dad's study back when this all started. He was a surgeon and loved to collect old medical tools. That's an 18th Century amputation knife, I figured it would come in handy. I had other weird tools as well but I lost them along the way.”

“What about the guns and the bat?”

“I stole the guns from my old community. The bat – was a gift from someone.”

“Did you steal any ammo for your guns?”

“Some, but I've used it all. I'm not a good shot, I waste a lot of bullets.”

“Should you be telling me your weakness?”

“Probably not, but I'm already in a bad position here. You have my batbelt.”

“Batbelt?” asked Carol amused. It had been a while since she had heard any kind of reference about the old life.

“Someone used to call it that and the name stuck.”

“Well, your 'batbelt' is safe with me along with your surgery knife. You're getting it back when Maggie gives you a green light.”

“Who's Maggie?”

“She's our leader, you'll meet her soon enough.”

Carol was always suspicious of new people but, for some reason, she just didn't know what to make of this girl. She wanted to trust her. She knew she was keeping secrets but they all were these days.

There was a knock on the door. A rather handsome man with messy, light brown hair, dark blue eyes and a crossbow on his back walked in. It was the same man who had brought Nora here, she recognised his voice. He asked Carol to go outside to the corridor; they had a small chat. Nora could only hear their muffled voices but didn't know what they were saying, it sounded like an argument. Carol came back into the room, staring at the man standing right at the door. Then she turned to Nora and said unconvinced, “You can see your brother now.” The man signalled someone to come in. A really thin kid with black, grimy hair and extremely torn clothes walked in. Nora opened her arms wide, smiled and said “Hey! You're OK!”. The kid ran to her and gave her a hug. Carol and the man exchanged a look, then Carol said, “We'll give you guys a moment, then we'll give you a tour of the place”. They both walked out of the room, leaving Nora and the kid alone.

Once she was certain they were gone, Nora pushed the kid away from her and asked “OK, who are you? And why is it your fault we got caught by these people?”

Great new chapter :) so guess the crazy carl will be the new enemy. love that idea

@potenialwalkerthreat
Glad you liked it. I was dying to publish that chapter, It's the reason I started writing this story :P

WOW!!! Great chapter! what hs happened to Carl? Poor him. Poor Rick. That was amazing.

@potenialwalkerthreat
Of course! I'm only basing Carol and Daryl on the TV series, the rest are all based on the comic books. I picture Michonne as a mix though because I don't particularly like how she gets involved with everyone and is so desperate to get a man on the comics so I'm taking her character from the TV series, but her bigger experiences - like what happened with the governor and her back story before the apocalypse - from the comics.

Great Chapter :) Quick question: Can you explain which characters are the TV counterpart and which ones are their Comic counterpart.
Loving Michonne being in it :)
