Lost Redemption

Recognition

The kid looked at Nora in disbelief and said, “You should be thanking me, this place is great and these people are good!”.

“You don't know that, and you don't know if I'm any good either!” said Nora angrily, “and you haven't answered my questions!” said Nora raising her voice.

“Don't yell, they're gonna hear us” whispered the kid. Nora calmed down and decided to start over. She introduced herself, “I'm Nora, what's your name?”

“I'm Julian.”

“How old are you?”

“I think I'm 10 now. And you?”

Nora stared at him blankly. Julian asked again, “Nora? How old are you?”

Snapping back into reality she said, “I'm 21 according to my calendar”. She kept staring at him for a bit, then she asked, “Now Julian, what did you do to get us caught? And why do these people think you're my brother?”

“Well, I was running through the forest and I found the creek. I was really tired so I sat by it to take a break. Then I saw something fall off a tree on the opposite side. It was something big, I crossed to see what it was and it was a sleeping bag. I looked up and I saw you sleeping there on a branch so I climbed up to give it to you. It was dark already so I decided to stay there and sleep on a branch next to you.”

Touched by the fact that Julian returned a sleeping bag in a now lawless world, Nora said, “Thank you, Julian, thanks for giving it back”. Julian smiled, looked down and said, “No problem” while shrinking his shoulders. Scared to ask, Nora said, “You were running alone in the forest, right?”

“Yeah.”

“Why where you running?”

“I had seen some biters before.”

“And why were you alone?”

“Because they got my sister.”

Nora didn't say anything, she knew the feeling all too well and these days there was no need to let people know you felt sorry, everybody felt sorry all the time. She got up and gave Julian a hug.

“If you ever wanna talk about it, talk about her--”

“Yeah, thanks.”

Nora wiped her eyes, then continued with her questioning, “So, Julian, what exactly did you do to get us here?”

“It's embarrassing.”

“It's OK, you can tell me.”

“Well, the sun came up and I really needed to pee. I climbed down and went near the creek when I saw two biters. I was quick, I thought, 'it's just 2 of them, nothing to worry about' but when I turned around I saw more of them coming over. I ran and climbed back up the tree and then I saw 6 or 7 of the were now surrounding the tree. I tried to wake you up but you were fast asleep. I knew I was supposed to stay silent, I know noise attracts them but I was scared. I'm sorry” said Julian, getting a little nervous.

“It's OK, we're all scared.” said Nora calmly.

“I yelled for help and that's when Daryl and Carol came to help us. Daryl says they were checking the area, making sure it was safe because this camp is near by.”

“So the guy with the crossbow, that's Daryl?”

“Yeah! When they went to help us, they asked me if I knew you and if you needed help too. I said you did and that you were my sister. When we got here, he asked me a couple of questions just before letting me see you. I was afraid he would ask me stuff about you so I-- but he didn't.”

“Yeah, Carol didn't ask me about you either, thank God” said Nora not noticing Julian's hesitation.

“So you're not mad at me?” asked Julian shyly.

“I am, a little bit, but I'll get over it. It's OK though, we need to convince them we're brother and sister, right? Brothers and sisters fight sometimes, that won't look suspicious.” Nora said while giving him a friendly wink. Julian smiled, relieved his new friend wasn't angry at him.

“Julian, why did you tell them I was your sister? Why didn't you just tell them the truth?” asked Nora.

“I don't know. I wanted them to help you too, I didn't want them to leave you there. When I told Daryl you needed help too and I couldn't wake you up, he climbed up and got you. I think they would've left you there otherwise. You were fast asleep, you didn't look very worried or in need of help”.

Nora sighed and pat his head, getting more and more touched by Julian's constant will to help. She had lived some really tough times since the dead started running around. She had seen civilisation dissolve in a second. She had witnessed kids as young as 8 years of age kill people for the sake of a community leader. She thought there was no good left in the world at all, until now.

@potenialwalkerthreat
Glad you liked it. I was dying to publish that chapter, It's the reason I started writing this story :P

WOW!!! Great chapter! what hs happened to Carl? Poor him. Poor Rick. That was amazing.

@potenialwalkerthreat
Of course! I'm only basing Carol and Daryl on the TV series, the rest are all based on the comic books. I picture Michonne as a mix though because I don't particularly like how she gets involved with everyone and is so desperate to get a man on the comics so I'm taking her character from the TV series, but her bigger experiences - like what happened with the governor and her back story before the apocalypse - from the comics.

Great Chapter :) Quick question: Can you explain which characters are the TV counterpart and which ones are their Comic counterpart.
Loving Michonne being in it :)
