As the night sauntered by the city grew worse with the dead. I woke up this morning to the sound of bodies shifting and nasty groaning. I wouldn't let my eyes meet with outside that window. I didn't want to disturb myself with the sight of those things surrounding me. I stretched my tired arms and crawled out of bed, nearly tripping over James who was sleeping on the floor. I laughed a little and made my way into the bathroom.

I looked myself over in the mirror, my face slightly sunken in from lack of nutrition. My green eyes looking dull and sad, my wavy brown hair flowing to the curves of my face in a wild mess. I shook my head to myself and started the shower. It took a minute for my body to get used to the feeling of the cold water, but eventually it caved and I dove in. I let my thoughts of the outside world cease and focused on getting clean. I didn't need to worry myself so much but how could I not? Everyday was a life or death situation. Everyday was a blessing but also a curse to be alive. The world was slowly turning into shit.

I turned off the running water and dried myself off, putting on some of the new clothing I had picked up yesterday. A t-shirt and running shorts, you tend to not care for your appearance in this new way of living. I used to care, I used to fix myself up pretty nice. But it was only to impress him. It hurt to think his name, Daryl. I blinked hard and threw my hair up, ignoring the annoying thoughts appearing in my train of thought. I walked out of the bedroom to find my brothers staring out of the windows of this upscale apartment. They paid me no attention.

"That's it. We have to leave. Today!" Luke was growing nervous. And he was usually the calm one. The one reassuring we would be alive another day. Seeing him act this way made me want to vomit the contents in my stomach. Marcus looked at him sternly and finally noticed that I was there before turning back to Luke. "And how will we do that? Jump from building to building?" He said with a sarcastic tone.
I jumped in on Luke's side, "That might be possible. Use a crossbow and shoot wire across, we could climb across the wire. Or some rope of some kind?" It seemed a little too good to be true but hey it could be done. Marcus chuckled, "Good plan sis but we don't have any rope or wire." I bit my lip and tried to think. I walked over to the window and finally looked outside, they were everywhere. You could barely catch a glimpse of the ground beneath them. We needed to see the whole city to figure out something.

"Lets go to the top of this building and look over the area, figure something out." I suggested. They both nodded and I walked back into the bedroom to wake up James.

When we made it to the roof seeing everything made it even worse for me. Not only were the dead surrounding our building, but they were surrounding the ones on all sides of us too. We were right in the middle. But it seemed like they were shifting towards outside the city, but that would take at least a month or two for them. Time we didn't have.

I looked around, a car dealership was to our left. "I bet if we get a big enough truck, we could drive through them. Well the area where there is less of them." we all agreed. Luke raised his hand and stepped up, "I'll throw them and stay here, you three go." I grew worried, leaving my brother up here to do the job. But he was the fastest out of all of us. It made sense for him to stay. The three of us packed everything and made it outside through the back, where there were less of the dead.

I took out as many as I could as we ran to the cars. Luckily they weren't far. I heard a boom and knew Luke had thrown a grenade, and then another, and then another. I smiled to myself, he was over doing it. James fell behind, struggling to kill one of the dead. I growled and turned to him, "Hurry the hell up!" I whispered. He nodded, noticing my serious tone and caught up. We made it to the car and Marcus stopped me, "We'll need keys to keep the alarm from going off." I shook my head, "No time. I know how to wire one anyways." He looked at me with confusion and I shrugged, continuing to run. I remember when Daryl taught me that little trick."You never know when you'll need to do it Mace, so I might as well teach you." I smiled a little, shivering at the nickname he used to call me, finally making it to a car.

I broke the window with my crowbar, and the car started wailing. I groaned in frustration at the annoying alarm. Throwing everything I had in, I wired it, causing the car to crank. Thank god. The alarm stopped and James got in the drivers seat while Marcus and I hopped into the back. James hauled ass to our building and Luke was soon running towards us down the street, kicking one dead guy and jumping into the passenger seat.

"Hell yeah!!" Luke yelled with excitement. I sighed with relief, we made it out of the city. Safely. I leaned against my brother and smiled. Maybe everything would get better from here on out. And even though I wanted to believe that I knew it wasn't true. Not in a world like this.

James was giving the car hell, pressing the gas as far as it would go. But just as things seemed bittersweet, life decided to send us into despair. A deer ran out in front of us and I screamed, "James!" But it was too late, he jerked the wheel sending the car flying and all I felt was pain. And then everything went black.

"Hey! Hey! Are you alright?" A man. But not familiar. Not Luke, Marcus or James. I struggled to open my eyes, but I felt arms surround me, pull me and carry me. I looked up and met eyes with a man, in his early forties, maybe late thirties. He set me in a truck and I became more aware.

"Martinez! Lets go!" The man said, he walked over to the drivers side and I noticed my brother Marcus beside me. He had glass in his left arm and his head was gushing with blood. My eyes grew wide and I looked at the man. "Will he be o.k.?!" I asked urgently. He smiled kindly, "Yes." I nodded and looked out the window, seeing the dark skinned man I assumed was Martinez struggling to carry my brother Luke and put him in the back. "Your names?" The man asked, I smiled apologetically,
"Macy. And this is Marcus, my brother back there is Luke. And the other one is James. Is he alright too?" The man nodded and cranked the truck, speeding down the highway.

"Yes, we just need to hurry. We have a town not too far from here. It's closed off, safe from biters." I nodded at his statement, he seemed promising and trustworthy. I noticed he called them biters, seemed a lot better then what we had been naming them. It seemed too cliche to say zombie. I turned around and looked out the back window, seeing Luke and James. Then the man called Martinez, and then another grey haired man with his face down and one of his hands covering it. I noticed the other was wrapped up in a bloody piece of fabric. But then again it looked like he had no hand..

"You can call me the Governor, that man back there is Martinez. The other we picked up in a truck, not far from the city, his names Merle." I swallowed hard. "It was just him?" The Governor nodded, "Yeap, he hasn't said much."

Merle. Daryl's brother. I blinked back tears and turned back towards the road. What if Daryl died in the city? And Merle left him behind.. I didn't know the full story, but I sure as hell was going to get to the bottom of it.

Thank You(:

I love it so good

Yes, This next chapter will be from both sides, which i'm writing now. I just hope I can pull it off! I want to portray him in the right way. But thank you!!(:

Even if we already know what happens, I'm glad to see what happens next. Are you gonna do a chapter from Daryl's POV? I'd like to see what he is thinking. Great job!

@Death_to_Roses I wanted to stop so that it'd have more suspense. Yeah you guys all know what happens to Daryl and Merle, but not Macy (; The next chapter will be up probably tomorrow night. Maybe even tonight because I am already writing it now.

Why stop it there? It really makes no sense since we all know this happens so the shock factor isn't really all that effective. :/ I just want mooore.
