I'll Stay, For You

five

For Merle, the next week passed by in a blur. His eyes were truly opened to what was happening around Woodbury, and he wasn't so sure it was leaving a good taste in his mouth. Trapping walkers, using them for entertainment. Even killing people who he wasn't so sure deserved to be killed... and Merle was one to bend that rule sometimes.

He had been fitted with a blade on his missing hand, which, all in all, he was growing rather fond of. It came in handy for close calls with walkers when they went out on runs.

But it had been a week since his last visit with Jenna, and he was feeling it was time for a little stress-release. When evening rolled around, he knocked on her door impatiently. Just the thought of their last visit had him envisioning what he wanted to do with her for the evening.

Jenna opened up the door, freshly showered and wrapped in a towel. She tossed the door open and let Merle walk through.

"I wasn't so sure you were coming back," Jenna admitted.

Merle shot her a confused look. "The hell you talkin' about?"

Jenna shrugged her shoulders. "Haven't heard a word from you since last time. Figured either I wasn't good enough, or you found something better."

"Better? Better than what..." Merle stopped and shook his head. He had forgotten how crazy women could be. "Forget that bullshit woman. Governor had me runnin' all over the countryside."

While Jenna wasn't completely convinced in 'forgetting that bullshit', she could read the wear and tear on Merle's face. He looked nearly a year older, though it had only been a week. She took Merle by the hand and led him to the couch.

"Phil is insane. Please just listen to me for a minute... when everything happened, and my mom was killed, and then my little sister, too... Phil lost his mind. He's not right in the head, Merle. He'll kill a man without blinking an eye, he even kept me locked up for a month because I tried to get away. Before Woodbury was what it is today, it was dangerous. Groups would come through and take everything. When Phil got the idea to build the wall, I wanted nothing to do with it."

"What d'you mean, locked you up?"

Jenna shrugged again. "I mean, he handcuffed me to a heater in his house and left me there for a month while they built the wall. He only let me back out when I promised that I wouldn't try anything so stupid."

Merle leaned forward and rubbed his temple, feeling a headache coming on. He had a half a mind to hop the wall and leave, right then and there. "You wanna stay here?"

Jenna let out a dry laugh. "No. I don't. But Phil would never rest until he had my head on a platter... we've had a rough relationship, ever since my mom met him."

Merle shook his head. "Goddamn, woman."

Jenna leaned over and kissed his cheek softly. "I wouldn't blame you if you left."

"Christ, woman, I'm not leavin' ya here with that nutjob." Merle let out a sigh. "For you, I'll stay. Keep you safe," he grumbled.

"You'd be better off leaving," Jenna told him in all seriousness. "I'm not worth staying for."

Merle let out a sigh and leaned back into the couch, putting his arm around her. "You change your mind on that, you let me know."

"I know you want to leave. There's gotta be someone out there?" Jenna finally asked.

Merle smirked. "My baby brother, Daryl. Only reason I give two shits about anything is because o' him."

Jenna nodded and leaned into Merle. "I'm sorry for what happened to you."

"Don't need your pity," Merle told her without emotion. Before, he would have never hesitated to get mad with anyone else. He wasn't sure if it was losing his hand or finding Woodbury, but he was feeling a change in his own waters. He was beginning to realize what an insensitive asshole he had been. "'Sides, can't have my sweet cheeks feelin' down 'bout ol' Merle here. Ain't worth your pretty little time."

Jenna turned to him and let her towel fall open, revealing her naked, clean body beneath. "Oh. You're not? I suppose I'll just go to bed then..." She stood and began to walk towards her bathroom, letting out a giggle when he threw her over his shoulder and took her to the bedroom.

Notes

gooblegoble: He is my favorite, too. I've always liked my men a little older and a little... okay a lot bit rough around the edges!

Hope you enjoyed the chapter... I know it's not as spicy as the rest, but ya'll can use your imagination for a bit!
