Never Enough

Ambush

Liliana stood on top of Hershel's SUV as the rain poured down on her and the campsite. She had managed to set up a giant umbrella underneath the lawn chair so she could at least stay out of the rain. Sitting wasn't exactly an option at this point because she grew to tired. To keep herself awake, she paced back and forth on the roof of the SUV with her hood to her jacket up to keep the rain away. She kept her rifle ready and eyes pealed for any movement but tonight seemed to be a calming night. It seemed even the walkers hated the rain!

The sound of the rain hitting everything made it hard to hear, Liliana could only rely on her sight tonight. She stared out into the fields, luckily the rain wasn't coming down to hard. She looked back at the camp, the fire from the fireplace inside still glowing through the windows. The group had managed to find an abandon farm house to settle for the night. Luckily they had no stray problems and it seems that the people who lived there just up and left. She couldn't blame them, that's what she did back on base.

Liliana couldn't help but wonder about her family, she wondered if her parents and brothers had made it to the safe house in New Hampshire. Growing up she had a typical family, her mother a nurse at the local hospital and her father a retired Marine who joined the Fire Department after serving. Liliana happened to be the middle and only girl her parents had. Liam, her older brother by seven years, had his own family. A wife named Maggie and their three year old daughter Natalie. Logan, her younger brother of a little over a year, was going to a community college close to home. He wasn't exactly sure yet what he wanted to do last time Lili had talked to him. Often times she wondered why she never tried to make it to New Hampshire, where the family's safe house resided. Something inside told her she needed to help out others because she knew her family was fine. Maybe later on she would travel to find her family but right now, she felt this group needed her more.

The sound of the front door to the house opening and closing broke her from her thoughts. She looked to see Daryl making his way towards her with a plate of food in his hands, "Figured you were hungry out here"

She smiled at Daryl and took the plate from his hands after slinging her rifle onto her shoulder, "Thanks Daryl. My stomach was starting to rumble"

Liliana sat down in the lawn chair and began eating the squirrel that they had caught just a few days ago. Daryl sat down in the other lawn chair and stared out over the fields.

"Everyone asleep in there?" she nodded towards the house.

"Hershel, Glenn, Shane, and Rick are discussing the next place to go. I didn't feel like putting my two cents in so I figured you were getting hungry"

Daryl and Liliana had become fast friends since Daryl learned that Liliana could hunt. Often times the two would go off hunting together and not come back till dark. They knew when to be silent but often times they could joke like no other. Liliana was glad to make a friend in the redneck, it made her feel like she was back home again with her family. The group was surprised at how quick Daryl took to the girl, often times they thought something romantic was going on between the two hunters.

"As long as they don't lead us to somewhere dangerous, I'm all for!" Lili smiled at Daryl before finishing her food. She set the plate down on the roof before leaning back in her chair. She scanned the fields, looking for any movement. Her eyes stopped out near the forest line, where she thought she saw a shadow move, "Did you see that?"

She stood up, Daryl following suit, and tried to get a better look. She saw it again and grabbed her rifle bringing the scope to her eye, "Looks like a lone walker, I'll go handle it!"

Liliana jumped down from the roof and took off running towards the walker, she heard Daryl yell out a be careful. She gave him a quick wave of acknowledgement but continued running. As she got closer she pulled out her machete. The walker turned towards her, smelling the meal and started stumbling towards her. The walker looked to be a female, she couldn't tell age because the thing was far to decomposed to tell. Before the thing could get it hands on Liliana, she slammed the machete into the side of his head. The walker dropped to the ground, never to move again. She wiped the blood off her machete and holstered it. She turned to make her way back to Daryl when she her shuffling and twigs snap.

A flash of lightning struck and the right time lighting up the forest. Liliana gasped as she saw a horde of walkers making their way through the forest towards her and the camp.

"Shit!" she took off towards Daryl, "DARYL!!! GET THE GROUP UP!!!"

Daryl looked at Liliana running towards him yelling, and towards the forest line where a horde of walkers was stumbling out of. He quickly took off towards the house as he saw Liliana stop and start shooting the walkers.

Liliana knew that the gun shots would attract her group to wake up but she wanted Daryl to warn them and speed them up. With precision, she aimed and took out the closest walkers before turning and running towards the house. Rick, Shane, T-Dog, and Glenn came barreling out of the house along with Daryl just as Liliana reached the house.

"Get everyone up and packed! We have to leave NOW!" Liliana shouted to them before firing her gun some more. T-Dog and Glenn went back into the house to round everyone up while Rick, Shane, and Daryl helped Liliana take down some more walkers.

"There are to many of them, we don't have enough ammo!" Shane yelled over the gun shots.

One had gotten close to Lili, she lifted her rifle and used the butt of the gun to knock it the ground before firing a shot into its head.

"Liliana and I will hold them off, get everyone rushing we have to leave!" Rick stood next to Lili and joined her with taking them down with close combat. Daryl and Shane left to help the others load everything into the cars as Lili and Rick fought off the horde.

"Lili look out" Rick stabbed a walker in the head that was sneaking up on Lili. She sent Rick a smile before continuing taking down as many as she could.

The pair heard vehicles start up before Shane pulled up next to them in the green SUV, "Everyone is ready! Get out of here!"

Liliana and Rick ran towards the truck, Liliana climbed into the drivers seat and started it up with a roar. Rick kept firing at any walker that got close before Liliana sped off after the group.

"That was a close call" Rick sighed before leaning back in his seat.

Liliana and Rick caught up with the rest of the group on the road and they headed away from the house, "Sometimes I don't think we will ever be safe"

Notes

It's not too fast and not slow either, you're perfectly balancing the love story between Lili and Rick (*_* awesome btw) and the actual group life, survival and friendship.
