Never Enough

Danger Lurking

Liliana and Rick had been walking for about twenty minutes now before they saw any sign of the town. From what they could see their weren't any walkers on the streets, but they knew better then to let their guard down so easily. Rick placed his finger to his lips signaling her to be silent. The two crept as quietly as they could into the town, keeping their eyes alert to any sign of life. Liliana and Rick stopped just at the edge of some building and squatted down, "The streets are dead, we should try and find a general store of some kind"

Liliana nodded, "Alright follow me." She stood back up and peered around the corner of the building to make sure the coast was clear. After finding nothing, she signaled to Rick to follow her. She had her machete out and ready, using her rifle here would just be a death sentence. Liliana made her steps as silent as possible as the two made their way down the street. Up ahead she could see a CVS, she did a low whistle grab Rick's attention before pointing to the store. He nodded, he ran up to the intersection just before the store and looked down both sides of the road. He gave her a thumbs up before they took off in a light jog to the store.

"Remember check your corners" Liliana was the first to walk in, she pushed open the door as quietly as she could before finding something to jam the door open. Rick followed in after, covering her back in case of a sneak attack. The store looked to be a disaster, someone or a group had already raided some of the store. "I'll check the pharmacy for any good stuff, you check for any other supplies we could use" Liliana kept low as she walked down the isle towards the pharmacy. She gripped her machete tight, ready for anything this world had to throw at her. The sound of shuffling feet made her stop in her tracks, she peeked around the isle to see a walker wandering aimlessly. She suspected their would be a few in here, there usual were some stragglers. Luckily for her the walker was facing away from her. She crouched low and made her way towards the walker, readying her machete. A sickening thud could be heard as the walker dropped to the floor with Liliana's machete in its head. She pulled her machete out with little force.

A growl came from behind her just as a pair of hands made their way into her hair. The walker pulled on her hair causing her to fall down and her machete to fly out of her hands. She groaned as she hit the ground and the walker landed on top of her. With all her strength she kept the walker from biting her but she knew she wouldn't be able to do this forever. She prayed that Rick was near and heard the attack. Even if it meant death, she knew better then to scream out. It would only attract more walkers and then she really would be dead.

Liliana squirmed under the walker, straining her arms to keep the snapping jaws away from her neck. She managed to bring on booted foot up to the walkers hips and kick, sending the walker off her. The walker rebounded quickly and started grabbing at her feet and crawling towards her. With a kick to the face, the walker let go of one foot. She kicked it a few more times till the skull cracked, brain matter and blood started leaking out of the skull and the walker ceased moving. Liliana scrambled to her feet and got her machete. She brought the machete down onto its head, just to make sure it was dead.

Rick came running around an eye and ran to her, "Are you alright? Were you bit?" Rick began to check her all over for bite marks. The near death experience had Liliana's heart racing. She collapsed into him, breathing heavy. Rick wrapped his arms around her and just let her rest her head against his shoulder.

"I'm fine Rick just had a scare" she mumbled into his shoulder. She relaxed into his embrace, taking deep breaths to calm her raging heart. She wrapped her arms around his waist and stayed like that for a few minutes, enjoying the warmth from his body. She pulled away after a while, "Thank you for that"

He smiled at her, pushing a strand of her hair out of her face, "It was no problem." Her heart was already starting to pick up again at the close proximity of Rick. She couldn't help the blush that graced her face as she looked down at her blood soaked machete, "We should continue on. It will be getting dark soon"

Rick gave her a nod before leaving her in the isle with the two dead walkers. Liliana took a deep breath before continuing on towards the pharmacy. A crash outside the store cause Liliana to stop in her tracks. She raced off towards the front door, nearly tripping on some fallen product. Rick met her at the front door, they both shared the same look of panic. Rick was the first to look outside, as quickly as his head peeked out it was back in, "We have trouble"

Liliana peeked her head out and couldn't believe her eyes. Walking down the street were at least a hundred walkers. Liliana popped her head back into the store, she quietly took the chair that was holding the door open. Rick shut the door as quietly as he could before they both started to barricade the door.

"What should we do?" Liliana looked at Rick after they had finished with the door.

He ran a hand through his hair, "We're going to have to hold up in here until the walkers are gone. Maybe we can find a way to the roof to get a better look." The two took off in search of a way to the roof. They found the employee hang out in the back rooms, that lead to a set of stairs. Liliana took the stairs two at a time before reaching the top. She opened the door at the top of the stairs to see they in fact found the roof. Liliana and Rick kept low as they crept towards the edge of the roof. The two peered over as the horde passing through the town.

Liliana slid down to her butt and rested against the balcony of the roof, "This isn't good. Night's coming and this size of horde wont clear out for a while"

Rick joined Liliana on the ground, "I have a feeling we're going to have to bunker down here till the morning"

"What about the group?" she looked at him wide eyed.

He lowered his head, "I told Shane that if we didn't make it back tonight to get the group out of here because obviously this town wasn't safe" Rick looked at Liliana, "This town isn't safe"

Liliana put her head in her hands, "Everywhere we go this horde follows...No where is safe." Rick scooted close to Liliana and wrapped an arm around her shoulders, bringing her into his body. She laid her head on his shoulder and placed her hands around his waist. She relished for the fact of being in contact with him, she liked how Rick's arms felt around her. She knew it was a bad idea to be feeling these feelings but with the thought of them possibly dying, she didn't care.

The two stayed like that for a while till the sun was close to disappearing. Rick was the first to break the contact, he peered over the brick balcony to see how the horde was doing. Liliana joined him, she groaned at the fact that they didn't seem like they were moving. Something told her they could sense her and Rick in the town and they weren't going to leave. Rick stood up, dusting off his pants, "We should gather some supplies downstairs for the night. Possibly camp up here for the night and see how everything is in the morning." Rick helped Liliana up with a smile before making his way towards the door. Liliana looked down at the crowded streets one last time before following after him.

Liliana gathered some canned food and power bars before meeting Rick in the back rooms. Rick had managed to find some blankets and water. The two trekked back up to the roof and set up a small camp for them. Liliana got the food ready while Rick set up a make shift bed with the blankets.

Liliana managed to get two can of peaches open with her machete, she handed one can to Rick, "Its the best I could find"

Rick smiled at the soldier, his hand lingering on hers as she took the can from her, "Foods food...we will need something in our stomachs if we wanna get out of here"

The two ate in silence, Liliana enjoying her peaches. She hadn't had peaches in a while and she was savoring the taste. Her grandmother used to grown peaches and make jams with them. Often times when Liliana was a child she would help her grandmother pick the peaches, not without sampling one. She smiled at the memory of her grandmother's smiling face.

"What are you smiling about?"

Liliana looked at Rick, "Just a memory" she put down her empty can, "My grandmother used to take me over the summer a lot. I used to help her with her peaches and jams"

Rick nodded, sending her a smile, "I did something similar to that instead my grandmother had blueberries...my grandmother would laugh when I would come back into the house with not very many berries in my bowl but more of it smeared across my face." The two shared a laugh before the groan and shuffle of the dead below ceased their laughter.

Rick placed his can next to hers and took a swig of water, "We should get to bed. We're going to need the energy in the morning." The two made their way over to blankets before climbing in them, the chill from the night already starting to set in.

Liliana laid on her back, looking at the stars, "I hope the group is alright." She could feel Rick shift closer to her, their sides touching each other.

"Shane and Daryl can protect the group...we'll find them in the morning"

She looked over at Rick, "I just hope they don't leave without us"

Rick smiled at her, "I don't think Daryl would even let them leave you behind. I know I wouldn't"

She felt a blush grace her cheeks, Rick's face started moving in closer and closer. They looked into each others eyes, Liliana could feel her heart speeding up. She closed the space between them, touching Rick's lips lightly with hers. He returned the kiss, bringing his body close to hers and wrapping his arms around her waist. Liliana placed her arms around his neck, deepening the kiss. The two broke away from each other to catch their breaths.

Liliana smiled and gave him one last kiss on the lips before rolling over and snuggling into him, "Goodnight Rick"

He wrapped his arms around her, "Goodnight Lili"
