A Thousand Miles (GlennXMaggie)
Glenn’s POV -
I pulled my t-shirt over my head as I picked up my hand gun and walked out of cell. I joined Maggie and the rest of our group for breakfast. We didn’t really have that much apart from some soups and vegetables. I missed my toast in the morning and my coffee machine. I missed sitting in front of the TV watching Saturday morning cartoons, lazing around in my PJ’s. But things were different. We had to move on. I sat down where my seat was saved, between Maggie and Beth. I smiled at Beth as I tucked my chair under the table and she smiled back. We were practically family, even though Maggie and I weren’t officially married we felt like we were closer than over. I offered Maggie a piece of bread. She shook her head as she pushed her food with her fork around the plate.
“Maggie, hun, you’re eating for two now” I said putting my hand on her arm. She looked up at me and gave me a weak smile.
“I’m just not hungry” She said quietly as she rubbed my hand with her thumb. I retracted my hand and smiled at her and nodded. Hershel sat opposite up, sipping his water. He had been great, with support and making sure Maggie and the baby was well. He shot me a smile as he picked at his bread.
“I’m gonna go for a walk” Maggie said, pecking me on the check with her soft lips,
“Sure, okay, be careful” I said standing up to help her up.
She giggled, “I will” She said, leaving the room.
I sat back down next to Beth,
“Where she off too?” She asked, nudging me with her elbow,
“She just needed some fresh air” I said, watching Maggie leave the room, making sure she was okay.
Beth laughed, “You are so damn paranoid”,
“Its only because I care!” I said defensively, but Beth just laughed and shook her head, her long blonde hair brushing over her tanned shoulders. I nudged her back in the ribs, playfully as she squirmed around. We were like brother and sister, we got on well. Hershel got up to leave and I quickly followed him. I thought I would ask him about Maggie’s eating problem now that she wasn’t here since she would just shake it off as nothing. But I needed to know if it was normal, not that anything was normal anymore.
“Hey Hershel” I said, placing my hand on his back, he quickly spun around,
“Hey Glenn, you okay?” He asked in his dead steady voice,
“Yeah just needed to ask you something is all” I said, scratching the back of my head.
“Shoot” He said, giving me a reassuring smile.
“Maggie’s eating habits”, I said looking down, as Hershel placed a steady hand on my shoulder. I looked up at him, “She hasn’t been eating well lately” I paused, “Is that...normal?” I said raising an eyebrow.
Hershel gave a deep sigh. And looked me in the eyes,
“It depends” He finally said after what felt like a lifetime of silence,
“On what?” I asked quickly,
“Either she is feeling sick from the food” He paused slightly, “Which would be fine”, he raised his eyebrows, “Or it could mean she’s being stubborn” He threw his head back and laughed. I looked at him in awe, I was confused,
“Wha, what?” I stuttered,
Hershel patted my on my shoulder,
“Don’t worry son, Maggie is just a picky eater. It’s totally normal for women in their pregnancy to go off the foods and lose their appetites”
I sighed and laughed slightly as he walked off.
Beth was right. I was being paranoid. Maggie probably just didn’t feel hungry. That walk should build her hunger up.
Maggie’s POV -
I walked along the fence. My heat from the sun was beaming down on my back. It was relaxing actually. The summer was almost over, which was a worry. The baby is due to be born in the middle of October. I just hope we don’t get a harsh winter this year. I saw the Walkers on the other side of the fence, leaning up against it, moaning and groaning. They walked around aimlessly, bumping into each other. The smell was revolting. The pile of dead ones where not far from where I was walking. The summer heat made it worse, the steam coming off of them; I could feel the bile rising up my throat. I threw up in a bush nearby. I wiped my face with my sleeve. The smell never got to me before. I guess everyone became immune to it. But I guess my hormones where all over the place and I couldn’t help but be sick.
“YOU OKAY?” I heard Rick shout from a watch post not that far away.
I raised my hand and nodded to signal to him. He nodded and went back to looking at Walkers. I continued walking. I could feel the heat getting hotter. The sweat dripped off my forehead. I quickly swatted it away. My legs felt weak. I decided to walk back. Get inside and get some shade. My legs began to give way. I felt myself collapse as my knees wobbled. I quickly put my hands out to stop myself but my elbows went weak and suddenly I was in completely darkness.
