Peaches & Softie

Chapter 4 (1/2): Tell It To The Frogs

Camp
No one's P.O.V
The survivors are doing their average tasks and chores until it is interrupted by Glenn's car alarm. Everyone gathers around as Glenn stops the car and yells a hello.
" Holy crap. Turn that damn thing off!" Dale yells.
" I don't know how!" Glenn replies in a shocking calm tone. He pops the hood so Shane can disconnect the battery to turn off the alarm.
" Is she coming back?" Amy questions, scared for her sister, Andrea.
" Yes!"
" Why isn't she with you? Where is she? She's okay?"
" Yes! Yeah, fine. Everybody is. Well, Merle and the new girl not so much."
" Wait what new-"
" Are you crazy, driving this wailing bastard up here? Are you trying to draw every walker for miles?" Shane yells, interrupting Amy.
" I think we're okay," Dale states to Shane as he lets out a sigh of relief.
" You call being stupid okay?"
" Well, the alarm was echoing all over these hills. Hard to pinpoint the source. I'm not arguing. I'm just saying. It wouldn't hurt you to think things through a little more carefully next time, would it?"
" Sorry," Glenn says before perking up by saying, "Got a cool car."
The truck finally arrives. Andrea hops out first, engulfing Amy in a bear hug. Then Morales gets out, his wife and kids running and hugging him.
" How did Y'all get out of there anyway?" Shane questions
" New guy and girl...they got us out."
" New guys?"
" Yeah," Morales adds before continuing. " Crazy Vato just got into town. We lost the new girl though. Hey, helicopter boy! Come say hello."
Rick then gets out of the truck before Morales says, " The guy's a cop like you."
Lori and Carl look over to see Rick as he sees them as well. They run to him and hug him tight as Shane gives a weary smile as the rest of the group come out of the truck.
Amy walks over to Glenn before asking, " What happened to the girl?"
" Don't know. I was the last one to leave the roof. I think she stayed with Merle-" T-Dog gets cut off as the sound of an engine begins to roar. The survivors look to see a motorcycle speeding towards them. It skids to a stop a few yards away, creating a cloud of dust around the person.
" Hey, stay right there you!" Shane yells, not knowing who it is. Glenn squints to see who it is. He then realizes and yells, " Carter!" before running over to her and her bike. Rick follows, as does T-Dog and Andrea.
" We thought you died. How'd you get the bike?" Rick questions.
" Got to Atlanta on it." She hops off the bike, grabbing her bag and weapons before walking over to the survivors, some terrified of her presence. Carter then notices Carl behind Lori and kneels down to his level and stares at the kid for a moment before Rick speaks.
" Lori, she's alright. She saved my life. Without her, I don't know what would've happened." Carl walks out from behind his mother and greets himself to her shyly.
She gives back a small smile, introducing herself before saying, " You look just like your dad Carl." He smiles proudly, as does Rick before she walks away.

Carter's P.O.V
As Rick tells his story I just sit on the log, looking at the fire while zoning out. I didn't notice I was until Carl called my name. " What?" I ask looking up at him.
" Do you have any kids?" I shake my head no before stating, " If I did though, I'd hope to have one as good as you." He smiles brightly as Shane starts talking.
" Have you given any thought to Daryl Dixon? He won't be happy to hear his brother was left behind."
" I'll tell him. I dropped the key. It's on me."
" I cuffed him. That makes it mine."
Glenn finally interrupts this little feud. " Guys, it's not a competition. I don't mean to bring race into this, but it might sound better from a white guy."
" Why don't I tell him?" I ask, only loud enough for Rick to hear since he's sitting beside me.
" Why would you do that?" he questions, making the group look at me.
I clear my throat before speaking. " I know what happened to him. I stayed with him the longest before leaving. Rick tells him what happened and I explain the rest." I get up and walk over to the R.V before sitting down, leaning up against it as I watch others leave their tents.
" Hey." I look over to see Dale's friendly smile. I nod at him as a sign to continue. " You could sleep in Daryl's tent 'till he gets back. We're packed but you could use it until he gets back."
" I'll be okay sleeping like this. I'm not budging man." He lets out a chuckle before speaking again.
" You don't seem to talk much. Why so content with me?"
" Just seem like a someone I can talk to 'is all Dale. Night." He nods his head in response before going into the R.V, turning off the lights. I then close my eyes, letting the darkness take over.
I keep running yet the front door seems so far away from me. I feel someone grab my hair and yank me back as I shriek in pain.
" Your gonna get it, girl. This'll be the best birthday present yet!" he yells, making me wanna hide as he pulls my hair again.
" First let's give her a long needed haircut," she says. I hear the sound of a blade before I fall to the ground, feeling the cut strands of hair fall on top of me.
" Now let's let the show begin." I hear him taking off his belt and his pants drop to the floor as I scream, letting everything turn dark around me.
I wake up drenched in sweat, shaking as if it's winter. I move my hands over my body, making sure nothing happened and I have my clothes on. I feel my hair, making sure my it's here, which it is. I let out a heavy sigh as I lean back on the R.V, regaining my breath.
I look to the see the sun beginning to rise. I get up, slowly stretching, before reaching for my bow and quiver and walking towards the forest.
I slow down my pace when I hear the snap of a twig. I grab an arrow and steady it on my bow. I see a squirrel in a tree as if begging to be shot. I ready my arrow and let go of the string, seeing the arrow gets stuck in another tree with the squirrel attached to it.
I walk towards over and climb the tree. I pull the arrow out, examining the squirrel before pulling it off and adding it the rope around my waist. I wipe the blood of the squirrel onto my jeans before continuing to hunt, keeping my mind from wandering too much.
