Chapter 9 – An old ‘friend’.

I waited, paralysed with fear and feeling each of Daryl’s staggered breaths wash over me.
“You’re still looking at me.” He whispered.
“Where else am I supposed to look? In case you hadn’t noticed, there’s not a lot of room here.” I hissed back.
There was whooping and cheering outside as well as glass smashing. It sounded like they were having a good time. I didn’t give a fuck as long as we remained undiscovered and at the minute it sounded like they were having too much fun to continue the search.
My eyes had adjusted by now and I could see Daryl looking at me. I stared back, not letting my gaze falter. I lowered it to his lips, and he caught me, a knowing smirk creeping across his face which was inches from my own.
He closed that gap first, his soft lips pressing against my own and his breath mingling with mine. His hands crept from my waist, up my shirt and across my bare skin.
I ran my fingers through his hair, pulling his face towards mine; the only sound I could hear was our staggered and heavy breathing.
He ran his hands over my butt and lifted me up, pressing my back up against the wall as my legs wrapped around his waist.
All of a sudden, light streamed into the tiny room and his lips were torn from mine and he lowered me to the floor.
A gun was pointing right at us. “Well, well, well. Look what we have here then.”
“You have to be fucking kidding me.” I said, looking at the person behind the weapon.
“Yasmin?” The man said.
“Hello, Josh.” I said, through gritted teeth.
“You two know each other?” Daryl asked.
“Of all the people to survive this crazy, fucked-up world, it would have to be my piece-of-shit, cheating ex.” I said, scathing.
Josh laughed, dragging me out of the office by my arm.
Daryl grabbed his gun and pointed it right at Josh, but not before another man pointed his at Daryl.
“I’d put that down if I were you.” The man said.
Daryl lowered his gun, putting it back in his holster.

“Ryan, I got this.” Josh said smirking down at me. “You moved on.” He said, eyeing Daryl.
I wrestled from his grip and slapped him. “Take your fucking hands off of me.” I spat, wiping away the bruise I could already feel from his fingers.
“There’s that temper that I remember.” He smiled, dragging me into the bar. “Look what we have here, boys! An old friend!” He threw me onto the floor in front of his group.
I landed with a thud, scrambling up to see Daryl being forced onto his knees at gunpoint.
“Stay down.” Josh said, kicking me in the gut causing me to cry out in pain.
Daryl went to move towards me and Ryan cocked the gun behind his head, causing him to freeze.
“Nothing I’m not used to, Daryl.” I said, voice laced with anger.
“Now, now, don’t be like that, Yasmin. You always used to be so much fun! I was kinda hoping you’d provide us with some entertainment tonight!” Josh said loudly, before getting on his knees and grabbing my face to look at him.
“You’re out of your god damn mind.” I said, spitting in his face.
“Well Daryl here seems to have warmed you up for us already.” Josh said, grabbing me by the hair and dragging me to the couch.
I scratched and pulled at his arm as he pulled me along the floor before sitting me on the couch.
One of the guys shifted uncomfortably. “Josh, I don’t think we should be doing this.” He muttered.
Josh rounded on him. “Coby, will you shut the fuck up, man? Nobody’s doing nothing.”
Coby did as he was told and shut up.
“Tony and Chad, take Yasmin’s new friend back through there where we found him. Yasmin and I have a lot of catching up to do!” Josh said with a sinister tone.
I watched as Daryl was dragged off, fighting with them to get away.
“How the hell have you been, baby?!” Josh asked, pulling an armchair to sit across from me.
I spat at him again causing him to backhand me across the face. Feeling that all-too-familiar sting made my eyes prickle with tears. I took a deep breath before turning to face him, “If you let Daryl and I go now, I won’t kill you.”
The others laughed as did Josh.
“Baby come on now. We both know you ain’t got it in ya!” He said chuckling.
“I’m not that same person anymore, Josh.” I said, bluntly.
“Damn straight,” he smiled. “A lot prettier.” He said raising a hand to move across my cheek.
I glared at him.
“More ballsy than he told us about too.” Rob said, laughing.
“Yeah, she was always fiery.” Josh replied, looking me up and down. “Take off your shirt.” He said, hungrily.
“Get fucked.” I responded, earning another slap.
“I’ll ask again, take off your shirt or I’ll take off one of your boyfriend’s legs.” He smiled.
On cue, I heard Daryl call out in pain.
“What about them?” I asked nodding in the direction of our spectators.
“They’ll leave when I tell them to.” Josh said, smirking.
I hurriedly removed my shirt.
“Somebody go drag that redneck in here, I’ve changed my mind. I’d quite like him to see this.” Josh said, evilly.

Ryan, disappeared for a moment before dragging Daryl back in, followed by Tony and Chad.
Daryl looked at me, half-naked and confused. I looked at him, his eye bloody and swollen.
“And your pants.” He said eagerly.
I unbuttoned my pants and slid them off whilst staring at the ground, earning a whistle from my spectators.
“What’s that big ol’ scar you got there?” One of them asked, I didn’t…no, couldn’t look at them.
“That’s where she had our baby, isn’t it, Yasmin?” He asked, eyeing me.
My eyes flashed up to meet Josh’s face, inches from mine.
“You thought I didn’t know, darlin’? Ohh, I never stopped keeping an eye on you, girl.” Josh said with an evil smile. “I was always there, always watching you. Damn near killed you bringing that child into the world. Shame it didn’t, really.”
I swallowed the lump in my throat, willing myself not to let him see I was hurting. “He wasn’t yours.” I spat.
“What you lyin’ for, bitch? I saw that child with my own eyes, man I even spoke to him. He was myboy.”
I couldn’t deny it, any more than he knew. He was biologically his, but our son was all of me. I loved him, I raised him. He was mine. MY boy. How dare he try and take that away from me. Before I knew what I was doing, I’d headbutted Josh and blood was streaming out of his nose and onto my bare legs. A couple of the men had run over and held my arms back as I tried to lunge for him again.
“Throw the pair of them back in the office.” Josh said, holding onto his nose.
They pulled me by my hair and threw me back into darkness, and Daryl alongside me.
