forgive and forget

even the dead once had a name

(Morgans point of view)
For the first time in a long, long, very long time I woke up with a smile again. It remembered me of the times I woke up in my old life when Jenny always layed against my back. But now, it was michonne, right? I felt the space besides me in the bed a but Michonne wasn’t there. I did feel a piece of wet, greasy hair.

“Woaw!” I jumped off the bed and discovered the piece of hair, actually fur, was Lady laying on my bed. She jumped up too and barked and I sighed of relief. I pet her and she calmed down again and layed down again.

I was awake now, I certainly was. I rubbed my eyes and walked out to the ‘dining room’. I saw Carol and Daryl there washing the dishes, Rick was sitting at the table with Glenn and Michonne and….wait since when did Daryl wash dishes? Michonne smiled at the sight of me and winked. I smiled back at her and thankfully received the mug of lousy coffee from Carol. It had been a week since last run and the engineer had finally repared the car so we could go on another run today. Apparently there was something wrong with the gas t leang but he fixed it now.

“What’dya doin’?” I asked Rick before taking a sip of my coffee and immediately reflexing back because of burning my tongue.

“Sorry, its hot.” Carol laughed. She was happy today.

“Making plans, we need to run further for supplies everytime. We need a plan.” Rick answered my question rubbing his head.

“And seeds for Hershel to grow crops.” Glenn added.

“I know about a kind of garden shop about ten miles from here.” Maggie said pointing at a point in the map.

“Wasn’t that the direction Karen had said the Governor went off to with his companions.” I noticed.

“Oh, shit yeah.” Maggie considered, “but I don’t think they are garden shopping. And maybe they went somewhere else.”

“We can do it but we cant risk only Maggie and Glenn going. We need to bring but also keep enough strength here just in case.”

Daryl shrugged. He was a shrugger, I smiled at the though; ‘shrugger’.

“I will go.” I offered.

“Me too,” Tyreese said.

“I am coming too!” Carl spoke up, we all looked at the doorway where Carl was trying to be neutral but we all knew he had been there the whole time, evesdropping.

“No.” Rick answered calmly.

“Dad! I am already about fourteen!” Carl whined. I accidentally spit out my coffee and everybody else laughed at the same time, except for Rick. Carol helped me clean the coffee of the floor. We tried to keep in our laughs.

“Sorry Carl, we laughed at you and stuff.” Maggie apologised still trying to hold back her laugh.
He looked angrily at Rick.

“Im not a kid anymore, im coming. You cant make me stay!” Carl screamed before running off to his cell running extremely loud on the stairs.

“Puberty.” Rick sighed and we all started laughing again.

In the end, it was decided that Tyreese, Sasha, Daryl, Michonne, Bob, Zach, Glenn and I would go on the run. I loaded the car with my guns and my mainstream baseball bat and saw Sasha talking to the black, new guy. I believe his name was Bob Stookey. Daryl found him in the woods one day, alone. I looked at the right of me when Sasha and Tyreese were still arguing with Bob. I watched as Zach kissed Beth goodbye and loaded his gun into the car.

“What? No goodbye?” He asked her while she walked away.

“No.” She answered laughing.
I laughed at Zach and patted his back.

“Love, huh?” I said.

“Fuckin’ romance novel” Daryl grinned, “Oh, Bob is comin’ along too.”

“Ok.” I answered Daryl and stuck up my thumb. I thought back at the times when I despised him, but he wasn’t as much of a dick as his brother after all.

“We’re going to Big Spot again.” Tyreese noted, “you know, the supermarket.”

“No we don’t Tyreese, we haven’t also been there like, hmmm… three times.” I answered sarcastically and everybody laughed. Michonne patted me on the back and kissed me on the cheek. After months and months of worrying, we could actually finally sleep and joke again. Beth even made a stand saying how many days it has been when there was no accident. It is at thirty right now and this is the thirty first.

I notice everybody is in the car already and they all wait for me.

“Hey Morgan, I know you have seen the Big Spot Three times already but…” Tyreese joked.
I laughed and jumped into the car next to Michonne.

“Bob. Put that down.” I sighed at the sight of Bob trying to sneak a wine bottle into his bag. We were in the supermarket right now looking for supplies. It was completely dark and we heard some walker noises on the top of the roof. The sound of the footsteps were overpowered by the zooming of the flies everywhere, flying around the dead.

Flying flies fly around the dead.” I sang softly to myself and grinned. When Duane was about three my wife used to always sing a tune to him:

Flying flies fly where they should fly,
Near the ground, up high in the sky,
Flying flies, free as can be,
Off they go, say the fly bye-bye

Bob put the bottle of wine back. I saw the shelf break and afterwards the whole closet.

“Bob!” I shouted and the whole closet fell on top of him. I tried to lift up the closet because Bob was under it but it was too heavy. Then I heard a cracking noise above me and the weight of a human body fell on top of me. I screamed and the walker growled at my head. I pushed it of me. The teeth were close to my head but I had pushed it off me at the right moment. More walkers fell through the worn off roof on top of our heads.

“Its raining walkers!” Tyreese shouted as he killed a whole bunch of them. I started running to the exit but fell over a large piece of something. It was like I was shot in the leg. I tried to stand up but the weight of my body was too heavy and my leg was possibly broken. I saw the footsteps of some walkers on the other side of another closet under it. The blood dripped on the floor and they moved slowly, they would see me soon and tear my flesh apart in every single way possible. I saw a walker body without a head, Miconne probably swiped the head off with her katana like in a game of ‘fruit ninja’, and put it over me to cover my whole body. I wanted them to not smell, see or bite me and I prayed that they would just walk past me. They came around and I held my breath. My chest started shaking and I smelled about three walkers coming closer to me. After being around the dead for so long, believe me, you would be able to smell them if they came one step closer from a mile away. One pair of slowly moving footsteps had already passed me, another pair was still walking near my feet and the other pair I couldn’t hear. That walker had stopped. I heard the soft growl only then, she was ten centimeters away from my face and under the chest from the dead body I was sweating like crazy. One eye of mine could look straight at the walker. I saw her once red hair hanging from her rotten head with a grey skin. Her eyes looked like a vacuum cleaner was pressed into the and it suck out all her life along with her hope. She looked into my eye and I knew she had smelled and seen me. I could see her name tag and read:

‘Betty N. Groves, assistant manager’

She opened her mouth and I saw her teeth. Little straps of blood covered skin pieces were stuck in her teeth, her teeth were more black and yellow than white and her mouth had more gaps than actual teeth. Her mouth closened up to my shoulder and I tried to move away but almost screamed when the pain in my leg hit me again. Then, the head stopped moving as a bullet crossed its head and it fell down on the floor. I sighed and all the footsteps of alive people ran past me. I saw Michonnes shoes and Daryls, and there went Tyreese and all the others.

“Hey!” I screamed but barely anysound came out of my mouth, “Hey!” I shouted louder now. I felt the weight of the walker on top of me being pulled off me and a hand put my arm around his or her shoulder and pulled me along. We were the last ones to exit the shop. I looked behind me and saw a big helicopter falle through the roof and one last scream.

“Who died?” I asked the person that saved me, my life.
My saver kept quiet and opened the big door so we entered the parking lot.

“Morgan!” I heard Michonne say and then I felt her wrap her arms around me. She kissed me on the lips and on my cheeks and asked me what was wrong. I saw blurry, I guess I was in shock or something, or I was about to pass out from the pain in my leg. I let my wait fall on her and my leg collapsed.

“He was wounded on his leg. I found him under a walker body while trying to escape.” I heard my rescuer say. I knew immediately who he was.

The man that saved me was…
